When camping in a Cabela Bighorn 3 outfitter tent, winter tenting is not considered a hardship. It's more like a luxury condo.

Looks really peaceful. I'd love to be all alone out there. My father lives in a hand made wooden cabin up in Maine. He'd love something like this for when he goes hunting. Really nice. Enjoy the great wilds that God gave us.

I would pack up that tent and all my camping gear and live like that all Summer long. That's the way to live. Who needs the city when you can live in a nice big tent out in the wilderness and have peace of mind? 😊

Allan you inspired me to get one of these BH3 tents for camping mainly with my two boys but sometimes the wife and daughter will come along. The kids are all teenagers with the typical habits but all too soon they are gone. I could not find another tent with the mix of space, stove jack, etc in the price range, Now I need your list for packing for the weekend! I think I would need a trailer for all that stuff, not just my truck. But you have a sweet setup and an awesome spot also.Looking for similar winter locale in VT. Most public parks closed and need special permit in winter.

Hi Allan! I like your vids, found them when I was researching stuff about Landslide lake, did the trip last summer. I just so happens I have a cabelas Alaknak tent similar to your Bighorn and just picking up some winter camping pointers from your video! I was thinking coming out to the Nordegg area in Feb for a first run in my tent and that area looks beautiful! Alan, how do you cut down the firewood? Chainsaw? Also, do you set up the camp and leave it for a few months, or set it up and dismantle it every time you go camping?
@miller31388 жыл бұрын
+Nikolay Ivanov I take a chainsaw and drop standing dead trees in the wild. I never leave my camp set up. I know others that have done that but I'm not willing to chance it.

Thanks for the awesome video! Can you please tell us what the silver material is behind the stove? I assume this is intended to protect the tent from the heat of the stove? Thanks!
@miller31388 жыл бұрын
+Joe Hasley it is a home building produce from Home Depot that is used on hot air returns in basements and it just helps to deflect any heat from the back of the stove into the tent. no sense wasting all those hard earned BTU's through the side wall of the tent.
@brent3388 жыл бұрын
how you like the dog stove? is that a 4? whats the heat shield your using on the near wall?
@miller31388 жыл бұрын
+brent338 Yes it is a 4 dog. I absolutely love the amount of heat it puts out and it last a good 3 hours or so depending on the type of wood (usually pine) the heat shield is just some cardboard air return I bought at Home Depot then taped layers of heavy duty tinfoil. It makes a huge difference in the tent as all that heat would be lost through the side wall of the tent. Well worth the small investment.
@J1I9M7M4Y8 жыл бұрын
If you have like +20 celsius in the tent and -20 outside. How long does it take before the inside temperature drops to around 0 if you don´t put any more wood in the stove?
@miller31388 жыл бұрын
+J1I9M7M4Y the stove holds it's heat for around 6 hours but I usually restoke it about every 4 hours just so there's no issues. I don't let the tent cool down to zero because that defeats the purpose of bringing the stove !!

Allan how many nights do you camp out at a time?
@miller31388 жыл бұрын
+Crash & Burn typically I go for about 5 days, it takes about a half day to get out and set up as well as when I return I lose about a half day tearing down camp and driving home.
@sharkiesgirl89298 жыл бұрын
old school sled right on. im getting tent for sure. i agree dont cook inside on stove who wants all the grease and smell inside you bag. u need to do another xvlog show your bag blankets and insulation under. how much snow can that take on top? how come noone ever uses a tarp on bottom snow insulates yeah but i dont get it nice tarp on ground or tree branches.

+StevoBot I bought it at Canadian tire and I believe it is about 30"X 78". Plenty of leg room and easily can fit 3 of these in the tent as well as the stove and accessories

I had to read some of the replies to comments to figure out where you are videoing from. It would be nice to say that this was in Canada (north ? South? Province?). I realize that you mention Hummingbird Creek but very few people in the world would know where that is. This video is watched world wide and you mention the cold temperature and many of us have never even imagined that kind of cold so knowing where in the world you are at makes the video much clearer and interesting.
@miller31388 жыл бұрын
+Ed noyb Thanks for the tip Ed. While shooting the video I was thinking on much less of a global level. I never dreamt 250K people would end up watching my adventures!!!Thanks again my friend
@MrTigerprincess8 жыл бұрын
It is my pleasure to comment on your video. It is definetly worth the 250K viewers. Hope in your future videos, which i believe will be very welcome, that you realize that your audience is pretty ignorant about things and places we havent been to or experienced.

Really neat! Is that a generator at 1:09? Isn't the gas inside of it kind of dangerous near the stove? It looks really neat though!
@kristinawoodmansee94608 жыл бұрын
could you tell me what type of tent this is? also what type of wood stove brand this is? thx
@miller31388 жыл бұрын
+Kristina Woodmansee it's a Cabelas Bighorn 3 outfitter tent and the stove is a 4 Dog stove bought from somewhere in British Columbia online. sorry don't remember the website
@Finn112338 жыл бұрын
brilliant ! Looks like fun, also how did you get the woodburner in? Are you on public land not that i care ;)
@miller31388 жыл бұрын
+finn casey-knight this area is accessible to vehicles so I drive my 4X4 right to the camp. I also have a decent toboggan for my skidoo so I can always load it up and take what I need in that way.

@steinwaygoat8 жыл бұрын
Sir, when it is that cold what do you use for stakes? Do you have any trouble pulling the stakes? Nice vid.
@miller31388 жыл бұрын
+steinwaygoat I bought 4 large spikes and use them on the 4 corners. the regular stakes that came with the tent. a neat trick to getting them out after they are frozen in is to give the stake a light tap further in just to break it free then they pop right out.
+Allan Miller When you say spike do you mean something like rebar? If you don't mind sharing specifically what you use it would be appreciated :)
@miller31388 жыл бұрын
+Francis Cahill No not rebar, an actual large 10" steel spike that's available at any Home Depot in the section with the screws and nails. they hold up much better than the lighter duty metal spikes that Cabelas sends with the kit
@franciscahill58688 жыл бұрын
