This video is what convinced me to buy this tent. I haven't come close to the temps you experienced, but I've seen 30ish at night. Warm and comfy w/Four Dog Stove, around 40 degree delta with a good fire. Vestibule is a MUST. I've had this tent w/vestibule since 2013, averaging about 8 trips a year @ 3-4 days each trip. Last year the plastic covering the rear window fell apart, Cabela's replaced it with no issue (new Bighorn 3 tent has the access port @ the front of the tent, nice feature). No issues with the stove and the tent wall. KIt: Bighorn 3 Roof protector (for use w/Four Dog Stove) Vestibule (MUST HAVE)--suggest outdoor rug for the vestibule Floor Protector Edit: Just saw a question asking about time to set up w/vestibule--about 20 to 30 mins in good conditions for me.

Allan you inspired me to get one of these BH3 tents for camping mainly with my two boys but sometimes the wife and daughter will come along. The kids are all teenagers with the typical habits but all too soon they are gone. I could not find another tent with the mix of space, stove jack, etc in the price range, Now I need your list for packing for the weekend! I think I would need a trailer for all that stuff, not just my truck. But you have a sweet setup and an awesome spot also.Looking for similar winter locale in VT. Most public parks closed and need special permit in winter.

Hey Allan, Finally picked up the Big Horn 3 and all the extras at the Friends and Family sale. I wanted a 3 Dog stove, but just bought a Camp Chef Alpine HD cylinder stove instead. 10 and 12 gauge steel. Great reviews by most. Being a welder I can make my own, but for 280.00 for everything it's hard to beat. I'll still put a gasket on the door and weld in a baffle plate. Do you think it will work okay for the Big Horn? Since you had an old cylinder stove before. I'm also wondering where you got your Four Dog Stove? Canvas Tent Shop? And do you use any protection under the stove? I was thinking Tillman carbon felt welding blanket or something similar.

+Byron Hi Byron, the main reason for going from the old cylinder stove to the 4 dog was being able to stoke the fire and get 3 hrs between feeds. the old stove put out enough heat but I had to feed it every 45 min. I bought it online from an outfit in British Columbia but I honestly don't remember their name. I usually take a small bag of play sand from Home Depot and put about 1 inch thickness in the bottom of the stove and it's unbelievable how much that stops the heat from penetrating through the bottom.

he should put in extra support for the roof.an waterproof cloth sewn to the outside walls where he sleeps an tack on felt inside there too. if it rains heavily those thin nylon walls will be no use at all. its a very good rig though. one thing? i see no defensive works whatsoever; nor a woman or any kids. you want the world/mankind to go on? well you will be needing those...and oh yeah...that generator runs on petrol? and the first thing to vanish forever is petrol..look up different methods of generating electricity...that truck is good though... its a diesel.. you can easily make your own diesel..

+Gerry Stevens This camp is just simply my getaway rig so I can go into the back country and relax/ retreat from the general population. It's by no means a bug out setup or anything that hard core.

+Susie Arviso I wouldn't be going to the wilderness and camping if I spent every moment standing guard with my Uzi scared to death of a bear. If the average person uses some basic wilderness common sense they will never have a problem.......I've been doing this for 20+ years and never even had a close call or an incident. NO, I don't pack firearms with me, the only shooting I do is with my camera.

how you like the dog stove? is that a 4? whats the heat shield your using on the near wall?
@miller3138
@miller3138 8 жыл бұрын
+brent338 Yes it is a 4 dog. I absolutely love the amount of heat it puts out and it last a good 3 hours or so depending on the type of wood (usually pine) the heat shield is just some cardboard air return I bought at Home Depot then taped layers of heavy duty tinfoil. It makes a huge difference in the tent as all that heat would be lost through the side wall of the tent. Well worth the small investment.

@miller3138
@miller3138 8 жыл бұрын
+Matt Burich it's a couple return air cardboard sheets that I taped together then covered with heavy duty tinfoil and taped all the seams with aluminum tape. it makes a huge difference inside the tent as all that heat behind the stove would be lost through the sidewall.
