Correct fasteners for installing cabinets to drywall, steel studs, wood studs and concrete. How to install cabinets to concrete, steel studs, wood studs and drywall.
-Ez-anchors are used for wallboard
-Toggle system is used for metal studs
-Redheads, sleaved fasteners and tapcons are use with cement or block walls and floors
-Washer head screws and drywall screws work for wood and steel studs
A word of caution when installing with drywall screws, you must be careful to not tighten the screws too much. These fasteners should not be used for fastening hardwood face-frames together.

This is a very informative video, but I was wondering what length of screw should be used to mount a cabinet into a wood stud? I bought some lag screws recently that are 2 1/2" long and will be using four to install a kitchen cabinet.

I'll look for the studs, thanks! You didn't tell us if the drywall screw goes into the stud... I'm assuming it does... Im using gold screws to secure my uppers, will that work? Thanks!!!

What about natural stone walls like limestone? What plug or screw would you need for that?

So for the anchoring systems, you have to install the receiving end in the wall behind the cabinet. Seems kind of difficult to locate that in just the right. Any tricks?

My luck, the one screw I wanted more info on and you didnt even mention it and it's very popular. It's a trim screw, black like drywall screws and it's used to attach the face of the cabinets together. I saw then at 2 1/4" with tors but i have seen them at 2 1/2" square drive. You clamp the wall cabinets aside by side together perfect with the doors off so the faces are absolute flush and zip these through. Preferably where the door hinge would hide the already small head. Do you suggest a different length or type of screw? I didnt like the torx as it's a T-10 and the tip of the bit breaks off quite easily.

What is a good screw to fasten hardwood face frames together? I bought GRK #8 trim screws. It seems like the threads are too course for hardwood.

Looking to rehang some old metal cabinet in the kitchen until we can get new. Any special screws needed for metal cabinets? Any other tips specific to metal cabinets?

I need to put a single cupboard in my nursery, but I won't use screw nails - we'll never get them out to move the cupboard. So I'm looking for a better way to put it up. In the old ways, I'm thinking they used a 2x4 that bolted to the studs and set the cupboard on top and then screwed them in

Must be the luck of the carpenter gods, I just removed 4 hanging cabinets and maybe 2 were actually drilled into studs. All the rest were just into the sheet rock with 3inch drywall screws. I reinstalled them at first the same way just to see if they would be secure. They stayed in place, but I still put toggle bolts since I have zero luck. And don't plan to test gravity

What measures do I take to anchor a cabinet through 1" drywall to the stud behind it? It will make a dust sandwich which forms a moment because the middle is useless. This doesn't make sense and I obviously need a workaround.

The shelf is maybe 3/4" abd the drywall 1/2" so a 2 1/2 drywall type screw would be plenty might even get by with a 2' screw.

Snapp toggles work for any drywall application right? Not just metal studs

Yes, as well as hollow block (cinder in example). The maximum weigh varies depending on the application, so read the box to be sure.

I JUST had a cabinet (after 10 years) fall off of the wall after being installed with snap toggles. There are some caveats to that (it was a euro style upper cabinet, hung on a metal rail) but still, we really felt that we needed to get a grip on how we install cabinets. If you're not hitting studs, I really think you should open up the wall, install some blocking, and then put the drywall back. A lot of work, for sure, but better than having a cabinet fall off of the wall 10 years down the road and potentially kill somebody.

Was said cabinet screwed to the adjoining cabinet and/or in a stud? Never fully rely on any type of anchor for a cabinet.

+Christopher Paden yeah, I agree. in this case it was one lone cabinet, so it didn't have the benefit of adjacent cabinetry. BUT, it does have us thinking about how we do things. (we've been designing and installing kitchens for 40 years).

Yes, I was wondering about that too. It doesn't seem like an anchor would be enough to hold a cabinet to the wall.

I am trying to find a video on how to fix a cabinet that's pulling away from the wall at the top, and my walls are plaster... this particular cabinet has microwave hanging on it

NEVER, EVER use flat head screws, especially drywall screws, to hang upper cabinets. ALWAYS use washer-head screws that are not hardened/brittle.

Some of those are way too complicated. Cabinets come down because A. the back pulls off (from over tightening screws) B. The fastener missed the stud. I have taken down large sections of cabinets that were up with just a few finishing nails.... and they were up for decades.
