Don't have Signal Crayfish in our club water yet but thry are spreading steadily in South Wales. So I will have to tie a few of these in readiness. Great tying.

Great fly! Cable tie idea was fun! I use/lose a lot of crayfish flies, always looking for a quicker, easier, fewer materials fly patterns. I recently got rid of the meta, and rattles, started using 1 red glass bead for the weight, makes awesome sound when bumped against rocks! Available at any craft store and very cheap. Now use 40 pound Fluoracarbon line melted into eyes! Light weight, cheap, very realistic. Thanks for a different method!

Tim, great pattern! I almost bought those hooks, also the mold, because it made light weight jigs with a medium size hook. You made an incredible fly with great movement, genius! Thanks, that has to be the most natural looking craw I've even seen. 👍😎

What a great tie! Can't wait to try these on the smallies of our camp pond. You sure are getting plenty of usage out of those CDL and Brahma pelts. Keep up the inspiring work!

Nice fly! I like to see patterns such as this one that can pull double duty for cold and warm water species. Can't wait to give this one a try, once the craws become active again in my area. Thanks for sharing this unique and interesting pattern.

Main feature of Crays is their mode of swimming. If you are using an active retrieve they look like minnows with a hitch in their steps. I think Gary Borger has the best fly for that. But for pick-ups this kind of fly looks worth a try.

How would you fish this? Could floating line work?
@tightlinevideo
@tightlinevideo 9 жыл бұрын
Fish it more like a nymph than a streamer, on or close to the bottom with a short strip every so often followed by a longer pause. Floating line will work just fine. If you don't think the fly is dropping fast enough, add some weight to the tippet.

outdoorsman ......what i do because a lot of times i can't afford buying material from fly fishing stores , i will hit up craft stores and buy something that resembles what i need from there and make it work .....just have to look around in mad scientist mode (HA) ! I get most my material from such stores / michaels , party city and toy stores ....works for me . ok my 2 cents ....have fun !

Yeah, I have been tying for 45 years, everything from full dress salmon to saltwater, to midges. I have bin after bin of materials, but you can never keep up. I think about the only material I wouldn't have to special order is the zip tie. Once they figured out you really couldn't effectively patent or trade mark this stuff like Whitlock tried to get going, it became all about selling new materials for every pattern.
