I love Jim McCarthy's playing and the fat tone he got out of his Les Paul and Marshall amps. He is a premier player that few can match.. lightening fast, yet never loses control or overplays. That whole band had phenomenal musicians and they could cook in a groove -- wow.

My little band opened up for Cactus one night. We knew they were gonna be great, bot wow. Out comes 4 Marshall double stacks and they rocked the place. It was a eye opening evening for me.

Bogert was a musician with great talent, was an innovator among bass players of his time but Jim's solo in Song for Aries is the most beautiful of all time:the one that all guitarists would have dreamed of doing,he has anticipated and i think that I and all the guitarists honest we should put it at the top of the world, hoping that some talented young genius will in future be surprised overcaming it. My passion...

Yes. I saw Cactus in Akron Ohio's Blossom Music Ampitheater? 1970, I was 11 years old Cactus. Some how, Tim Bogert's bass is not in the mix. But, the drums and guitar really are great to hear. Carmine and McCarty are so damn good

Yes, this very beautiful playing all the way around. Reminds me of Jim's playing on Buddy Miles Express - Electric Church... a song called "Texas." I was elated when Jim was finally recognized by none other than Les Paul himself for the song "69 Freedom Special," off the same LP... receiving a GRAMMY!

I still have this 3 record set. I wore the grooves off the Cactus songs & Mouintain's Stormy Monday. I also had it on 8 track! Catus was the best rock band of the day!

Cactus did appear at the Marisol Pop Festival at Vega Baha, Puerto Rico.. (see Cactus Hot-n-Sweaty, albeit without Jim McCarty on guitar. Jim had joined 'The Rockets" then. For those interested, Santana was also there and the concert was named for recently crowned Miss Universe - Marisol Marilet... Miss Puerto Rico. Tickets cost $13 for the three day festival.

Cactus was my favorite band of the era. never got to see them, but wore many an lp out.my fave was the 2nd lp, "One Way or Another" I always thought that "Rockout, Whatever You Feel Like" shoulda been the national rock and roll anthem. btw.......if you like listening to Jimmy, check out his new band, The Hell Drivers, right here on youtube

There is film footage of this. This is actually the 1970 Atlanta Pop Festival and in 2012 the film footage was cut into a rough film festival version and is expected to be released eventually? No word on Cactus or Bob Seger System footage being used though. I don't think anyone cares about them enough. Gotta include film of Hendrix and other people we have seen a million fucking times. The film was called Hotlanta: The Great Lost Rock Festival

hope that the footage of Cactus & Bob Seger eventually come out. 'd love to see them, especially the Cactus footage. I mean it's been like, what, 40 years since thir debut album came out?

@sam4u2004w You can buy Mountain's "Stormy Monday" unedited as an MP3 track at Amazon. It's on their "Off the Top" anthology. And it's worth the buck to get it unedited.

..would it be possible for you to post mountain's version of 'stormy monday' from this lp ? I have searched to internet and it is not available plus the 'upgraded' cd release of 'isle wight / atlanta pop 1970' has omitted mountain's excellent jam... ..from one fan to another, I would really really appreciate it if you could post stormy monday ( even in 2 parts ).... ..thank you, thank you, thank you ( in advance )......(keep the vibe alive)
