Only in Japan, ya'll! Yuru-kyara (mascot culture) is very big there. EVERYTHING has a mascot lol. This particular mascot is known as "Nyango Star" the heavy metal cat. The name is a riff on Ringo Starr from the Beatles fame. This particular mascot's job is saving a small apple farm in Kuroishi City, Japan from shutting down. So yeah, these people professionally learn how to perform crazy feats for a living in order to do good in their local communities.

So the story behind this person (known by the stage name Nyango Star) is that they do their performances as this mascot with the goal of making more people in Japan aware of the small city they come from and the apples the city produces, which is the main source of income for the area. This is in the hopes that more people go there and/or buy the apples, thus boosting the struggling local economy. What they probably didn't expect is that doing this might end up becoming popular outside Japan too, so might cause the city to draw in people from far further than just the rest of Japan, which may make it more effective than initially thought. I hope it does work out well
