Caddx, please make a naked version of Peanut with just a connector for the FC directly soldered on. I want it to be lighter with no battery. I don't care about the warranty. Also, please add a microSD card slot so I can record more flights. Thanks.

Would you change the form factor with these suggestions as well? Standard camera mounting option, so no need for 3D printed mount either I'd also like an option for video out, so could be a single camera solution, ie less weight

Interesting that they made is just a little different for FPV but didn't go totally crazy and made it "naked" like I'm sure some people wanted. I guess Caddx didn't want a bunch of those returned on the first crash! HAHA

If you sand down the groove ,can you use the usb c connector to the regular Go 2? I cant find the go 2 usb c power mount for sale anywhere...so i might buy this one instead

Not sure but I think the location of the magnet is different so it will cause it to slide off center and disconnect.

Hey great video by the way. But I have one question when you toggle the switch on your transmitter the first one gives you power, a long press, then the second one starts recording, short press. But what mode is it recording in? Is recording in standard or pro?

You have to set the default mode in the app. By default it's standard, but you can change it to pro in the app.

Was really hoping for the Go2 filter fit the peanut.. Just received my Peanut and the nd16 it came with gives an eztra notch of warmth om the 5000k wb setting that is slightly orange/magenta and it suuuucks..might try the freewell Go2 filters and maybe shave the bottom of filter to screw in furthet haha. Great video !

7:40 while the peanut is cheaper,I feel for sure the go 2 is still the way to go as it makes it a better all around camera usage. I just wish the $240 price was what it came out with originally. Question: do you ever see vinietting with the ND filters? I see them on mines, then again I went with the cheapest ones🤦♂️

On the GO2 with the Freewell filters, I only see a little bit in very hard moves in Ultrawide FOV. Otherwise, I don't see it.

If you set it up as I showed in the video, just flip the switch on/off to power it up, flip it on/off again to start recording.

Albert, great content as always. I had a quick question. This peanut, when I record in pro video mode for some reason my flips and rolls are not showing the actual flip/roll in the video. Did you encounter this with the pro mode recording? (regular video recording it registers.)

If you're using Insta360 Studio app, you need to select FPV stabilization instead of Flowstate stabilization.

Cool. If I were to lose my Go 2 I’d probably replace it with this. By the way, the Go 2 can record longer than 10 minutes. There’s an FPV mode in the pro video settings.

After some time, the battery gets worn out. Mine only lasts 10 minutes on pro settings. Even when it was brand new it only lasted about 20 minutes.

If the grooves were taken off the magnetic connector so it fit flush, do you think it would actually line up and work?

It might, but that is assuming the pin out is the same. No guarantee that is it.

@@AlbertKimTV Yeah fair point. Really be good to know though I hope someone gets to try it. Just a shame as I love the 2 for everything it offers normally as really versatile camera. Additionally I want to use for FPV. Not either or which they seem to assume people want. If the 2 could have external charging and the option to start and stop remotely it’s a winning formula.

Please can you test the magnetic connections on the Go2 to see if they actually work. I know the groves are different however we could Jerry rig a mount. Can you test if it powers the Go2 and also if the remote control works along with the extended record time please?

I showed this in the video. You saw it sliding around, right? Also, the ridge doesn't allow the pins to connect properly. If you are asking me to hack up my mount, I won't do that.

@@AlbertKimTV I used it once only (not fpv related), way to expensive to crash it and not being able to hook it up to my main lipo was another reason. I'm a casual weekend flyer, when I go out flying I do it for two hours straight, it sucks if the hd cam can't record every moment I'm in the air. As simple as that. Only issue I see so far is that I can't use go2 mounts, since I suck at 3d printing this could cause some stress. But overall that's what I was looking for.

Instead of a bumper switch, is it possible to map the camera button to one of the trim buttons on the Jumper T-Lite ?

@@AlbertKimTV My mistake. I recently got the T-lite and have come across a couple sites with instructions on changing the trim buttons to momentary switches. Thought it would be better than flipping a switch multiple times. I am still learning. 😊

The included step down that came with the Peanut can take 2S to 6S lipos. More details are in the manual.

Really appreciate this tutorial! I set mine up on UART 4, and seems to work. However, mine turns on and then immediately goes back to a red light after 3 seconds of solid white. Toggling the mode while it's blue or white does nothing, it just shuts itself back off. Any clues?

I'd be interested in comparison flights with this and Go2 on same rig, if this is heavier and pulling power from your battery that has to impact flight time especially on small lightweight builds.

Hi Albert, it would be interesting to measure the weight of the Peanut with the Adapter + Cables for fair comparison. Yes for shure it will run stand alone but the external power supply is the key feature over the Insta 360 GO2. Thanks for the Video and the detailed Information!

The main drawback of Insta360 go 2 is overheating issue due to which device turns off itself after 7-8 mins in Pro mode so this problem is completely removed in caddx? I tested that Go2 battery last 20 min-25 mins in pro which is enough for FPV Drone flight but the over heating issue doesn't allow to record to that limit continously. So can caddx continously record 20-30 mins footage without cooling break?

I wonder how you have it installed where it's overheating like that? I've got good airflow on mine and as long as I'm flying it's OK. It will overheat if just sitting on the ground with no airflow.

Either a limitation of the original GO2 design or they wanted to have the option to go either way and allow for battery only flights. A removeable battery would have been nice but that would have made it a lot larger and heavier. I'm sure it won't be hard to mod and strip it down with no case or battery if you really wanted to do that.

you said you couldn't make a connection between go2 and the usb adapter from the peanut. but is there any way to hold it in place just temporarily to download and charge the go2 with the peanut adapter? or are the pinouts different? I have the go2 but the charge case got melted while charging and I just want to charge and download videos from the go2 uring the peanut usb adapter. Thanks Albert.

You would have to shave down that ridge. That is preventing the connection.

very happy with the peanut, the only problem is that the connector is WAAAAY too heavy, if you crash hard, it will come lose, and your propellers gonna eat it.and id doesn't;t store pro video settings so every time you have to open the app to make the settings, so annoying! but besides that, its a pretty good choice for FPV.

There are new mounts out now that will hold the connector in place so it won't come loose in a crash. Settings should save on the latest firmware.

@@AlbertKimTV nope, just got a reply from insta360 support, they confirm it won;t save, when the camera cycles power, everything is back to default. but that's just a software thing.

Odd that they restrict max recording time to 30 minutes? Is there a way to get around this by switching off and on recording while in flight? This gets tiresome for long flights

In the middle of the video I talk about using your transmitter to stop/start recording. You can use that. I think there will also be a limitation on total storage space as well. Only 28G available so that might fill up sooner.

Wait, original Go 2 only has a 10 minute battery? How come I could record my half an hour scooter trip? And a few more hyperlapses after that. That's something you can easily check as you do have both of them. I don't think you are right on those numbers. On a different topic, the connectors look the same, are they interchangeable perhaps? You mentioned it dies not "clip on" because of the grooves, but it probably shares the wiring. Would that allow to power the GO 2 with some modifications to the FPV mount? Would you care to create a diagram which pads are 5V/GND? It should be really easy with a continuity check between the pins and the wires. PS An informative review despite my earlier comment. :)

Well, my GO2 battery only lasts 10 minutes as I fly it a lot so it's been about 4-5 months of usage and the battery life is not as good anymore. So, in that sense, having the external power is a good thing. Also, I never got a 30 minute battery life on my GO2 even when it was brand new.

@@AlbertKimTV I hope that's not the norm. Coming back to the wiring, would you be so kind as to check which pads are 5V and Ground on the Peanut? I could then try to make a power harness for the GO 2 - it's much more difficult to check on the remote.

My Go2 on totally full battery will last a max 30mins. I have gotten 30min videos a few times. 24fps if that matters. So peanut will do the same? Love they added power cable. Just wished it was going to be 20g but I mean what's 7g lmao 🤣 also wanted cooling holes. Mine has over heated and stopped recording mid flight if I'm not flying around fast enough on hot day I'd make power balance cable plugs

My GO2 battery is worn out now. I use it a ton and battery life is not great anymore. So, 10 minute usage for me. Peanut arrived JUST IN TIME! 😁

@@AlbertKimTV oh that's like my go 1. That I constantly left fully charged or fully depleted.. so now the battery won't ever hold a charge but i only use go2 now. And try not to leave fully charged if not using for awhile.. too bad no storage charge option lmao

I really want to like this camera but a lot of decisions were made that confuse me. The only real FPV centric mod is the 5v power lead, which will only add weight to the already heavier peanut. The fact that the accessories don't work between the two cameras is also quite disappointing. Having the 5v lead but not being able to remove the battery is another head scratcher for me. The peanut with the 5v lead is as heavy and identically priced to the SMO4K. I just don't see any reason to get the peanut over the SMO4K. Something the size of the peanut would be ideal for attaching to something like a tiny whoop, but they haven't made any design decisions that make it any better for such an application. What am I missing here?

Unlike the SMO4K, this one does have the battery to fly it without a power tether as an option if you want to. Also, it has a smaller profile than the SMO-4K so ight be better in some applications where wind resistance could be an issue.

@@AlbertKimTV I get that, but I feel like this could have been better accomplished by simply making a 5v connector that works with the current Insta 360 Go2. The lack of inter-compatibility between accessories makes this a non-starter for me.

I originally was going to buy a GO2 but many people said it was horrible for FPV because of Jello. So the firmware and internals are exactly the same? So this is going to have Jello unless you come up with some vibration isolation mount as well?

If you use a proper mount, there's no jello. See my sample footage link in the description. Any poorly mounted action camera will have jello as well.

@@AlbertKimTV In my research many people had probems with Jello with the Go2's and needed a custom.... not off the shelf vibration isolation mount to get rid of the Jello. There are a few videos posted on this subject.

For the pinIO feature you don't really need a uart. You can use any other pin such as the led one. So you don't lose a valuable uart.

Yes, any signal pad. I just used the UART in my example. I wasn't going to make a 2 hour video on everything on the wiki page. People can just go read it on their own.

@@AlbertKimTV I wonder if the FC can be set in a way that it send a pulse instead of mimicking the state of the switch. So it sends a pulse when you arm, and send another pulse when you disarm. So it records only when the quad is armed. Linking everything with the arm switch

Correct me if i am wrong, but its whole new product with nearly same specs as GO2 just because external battery dock for LR that could be sold just as upgrade FPV kit to existing GO2 ??

It also has a $60 cheaper price since it's not sold with the remote/case. However, the GO2 won't work with the external dock because it slides off as I showed in the video. That is why the Peanut case is modified and different.

The footage is the same as the GO2 as I mentioned in my video. So I didn't want to focus on the image quality since I already did that in the GO2 video. I focused on the features that make this version different from the GO2.
