No you shouldn't try flying as this as an fpv camera. Wifi range is very short. I get asked about using these cameras as an fpv camera very frequently.😉

i've noticed that any time an action camera has EIS enabled, ie: HYPERSMOOTH(GoPro), ROCKSTEADY(DJI), FLOWSTATE(insta360) etc, there will always be an increased delay and it is more pronounced the higher the frame rate setting.

i really like seeing the shadow when I'm flying too, makes me fell even more immersed like I'm a quad, or looking into a mirror fpv messes with my existentialism as well lol

Very happy with mine so far. It’s actually a little smaller than I thought which was a pleasant surprise. It’s pretty light for its class and weight isn’t a factor on any 5 inch. I haven’t experienced any bad performance issues, image quality is good and being so reasonably priced there’s less stress over smashing or losing it.

Saw this show up, thanks for the video. Recently just got a Runcam Orange 5 (Thanks to points from VISA). Not much more than the Runcam for what looks like a fair amount of improvements over the Orange. These are the kinds of camera's I'm liking. Might look into these if I need another camera to complement my Orange 5. Nice Flying and an amazing neighborhood for it too and awesome the locals are cool with it. Looking forward to more! Cheers!

I think that looks great, I fly a 380g(with battery) 5" that would love this camera. A gopro hero 7 is twice as heavy as this guy. I'm really considering buying this camera just for that drone. I've used gyroflow a few times and I love it. It's either the caddx walnut, or the caddx peanut. I think the walnut is a better choice for "refined" video, and the peanut is better for quick 1080p stabilized video that you can edit and upload on your phone in the field between switching battery packs on the quad, which is really cool.

I have this camera. I am VERY impressed with the image quality. If your on the fence I’d recommend this camera. The only disadvantage I’ve seen so far is the battery life and the microphone. You can fix the battery problem with the included usb adapter and voltage regulator. Love this camera. I’ll have a flight edit up soon with this camera.

I'm thinking of buying this camera. It looks better than the runcam 5 orange, imo, and I really really like the screw on ND filters. I have a lightweight(not ultralight) 5" that's about 380g with a 13004s, and a gopro is just a touch too heavy for it. I run 2005.5 hyperlight motors. It does just fine with a gopro, but I can feel the weight. I think this camera(walnut) and an 850mah battery, and I'd be around the 380-390g AUW. Cmon FAA, just give us 400g...

@@tharunshiv I would suggest something different. this camera is a quality camera but the battery life would not be that great for a day of riding. however, I do like this camera, so I can recommend it.

They used a metal case for a reason, these need the case to stay cool as the cameras make the case very warm. Remove the case and you loose the heat sinking it provides.

The camera burns the highlights, gopros do the same unless you go - 0,5EV . . Not the biggest problem, it also has jello on the brighter areas. It has severe competition now as the DJI action 2 is regularly ~200-ish and the mini 11 is around 300, they probably felt it's difficult to move it at the original 199;- pricepoint 🤔

2:30 might as well just slap on some foam tape which shouldn't add more than 2-3 grams. That's much better than the hassle of 3d printing.

Image looks good, camera looks good, my only question is quality. I've seen way too many of these type of cameras that end up being weak soldiers, ie they break easy. I'll wait a few months until I see some usage reviews. Great review, thanks !!

@@mx118racer hmmm interesting didn't know what to be honest. It is cheaper now compared to a few months ago. (Around 220ish, not with dual screen) so i don't see a reason to get the caddx walnut.. 🤔 But im not saying it's a bad camera

I would be considered blind when it comes to judging cameras, but it looked pretty good, the five seems less than others. Does it record in 16:9 where is doesn't say 4:3? On the listing it just states 4:3.

Great review! Footage looks okay but highlights are definitely blow out. Don't think it's worth the $60-70 extra for 4k60 and live view over to the Runcam 5 orange. Image looks worse to be honest but lowering exposure might fix that.

I ordered 2 of these and the cameras that arrived exhibited significantly different behavior despite having the same firmware. Lots of firmware issues in general - trouble connecting to computer, turning off when USB power is disconnected, locking up. Caddx support would not honor their own warranty, wanting me to pay to return the defective parts even though their website says that Caddx will pay for returns. Beware!

the camera does not have stabilization built in. The gyro data from the camera is used post recording with gyroflow to help stabilize. There are limits to how much the recording can be stabilized depending on the original source.

Hi Nick, i have updated the walnut to the latest Firmware (1.8.1.2.20221125). Yes there is an option to change the WB to sunny etc but the WB will always return to AUTO. I can see in your video that you leave it at AUTO, can you please check your Walnut, does it have the same issue? If yours is OK, which firmware you are using? Please help 😢

I bought this cam to shoot motorcycle videos, I did some tests and the battery only lasts 25 minutes recording, in any resolution... do you know if this is right?

better is very subjective and in the eye of the beholder. Its far cheaper, better would be for you to determine.

It has gyro data but doesn't auto level the footage. We have to use something like gyroflow to stabilize the footage.

It doesn’t have an lcd 🤣. it was LDC, lens distortion correction. I really enjoy it but the settings annoy me. You have to set everything to auto before you can make changes to shutter, iso, exposure…it’s extremely annoying. I asked caddx about it and they said leave it all to auto. Im order to take it seriously you can’t have over saturated colors or an over exposed sky. Im investing more time into the settings as I am not quitting on it. As of January 2023, I now agree more that gopro is god like

want to change crappy gopro8 for that, tyred of shity hardware and software, Walnut is a fixed dji osmo action 2, with card slot in main body and magnet charger, would perfectly fit on my motorcycle helmet with powerbank in hydrator _(less weight is always good for the neck)_ would be nice to see soft stab and mic quality
