On the front end of the plastic tube in which a large spring is or can be pressed into.insie that unit is a winding and a copper terminal.now mine hasn't got anything on that terminal.looking at the drawings the far end of the winding is earth the front cr front end has a terminal.A..is something missing from that terminal that's important to holding the speed set to the rest of the unit.\ throttle.

Josh, I really enjoy your Videos. It is a pity that you don't make them anymore. I have a hard time understanding this type of cruise control. I have one in my '62 Cadillac. I ask myself if it is possible that the unit malfunctions in a way that I can't disengage it? That it keeps holding the throttle although it isn't desired anymore?

Nils, I'm still here answering questions,just not making many videos. Yes, the cruise control unit can malfunction in such a way as to not release the throttle. If the problem only involves the unit not disengaging when the brake pedal is pressed, then the trouble is in the switch or its adjustment. If cruise won't disengage by turning the dial to 'off' then the problem is either control cable adjustment or the cutout switch within the unit. The service manual explains the adjustment and testing procedures. Josh
