Hey you wanna make $14 _the hard way?_ The way Dangerfield delivers that line makes it funny every time. I can’t think of anyone who would do better in that role.

@@blakeharris58 I did consider him along with Rickles, good call. I think Rickles would have better delivery of those 2, but Dangerfield's chaotic-yet-whimsical energy and shtick bring so much life to the character

Milty and Rickles didn’t have that kind of smugness in their delivery that Dangerfield had. Al Czervik had a raging and hilariously big ego.

"so what? SO LETS DANCE!!!" - how does this not get discussed?!?!?! PRIME JOURNEY in the middle of the movie for maybe the most ridiculously great dance break ever? THAT is a rewatchable scene

Used Cars, Caddyshack, Airplane, Cheech and Chong's Next Movie and Blues Brothers all came out within a month of each other in June/July 1980

any of the scenes when rodney is on the golf course there are quotes galore there.. "fore! I should have yelled two?" "So what? Lets dance" "My arm, it's broken" "thousand bucks you slice it into the trees"

The reason Maggie is Irish is because, as you alluded to, the original script as written by Brian Doyle Murray was more about the caddies than Rodney, Chevy and Murray. The whole reason this is a golf movie is because it was based on the Murrays' youth growing up near a golf course. For whatever reason, every summer, a number of people from Ireland came over and worked at the golf course they worked at/played on. It's one of the few things retained from early versions of the script.

Scarface makes cocaine look horrible and destructive whereas Caddyshack makes it look good. Plus Bill points out that in 1980 it wasn’t viewed that badly and no major celebrities had died of overdoses yet.

I could've lived out the goofy gopher and Maggie was just a weak character/I didn't care that she was knocked up but everything else was pretty great 9/10. So many great performances but Ted as the Judge and Bill as Carl really stand out for me

Sad that there is such an immediate dismissal for a Netflix series. Who's doing anything with golf right now in entertainment? Recast couch(current actors)was already started with Rob Lowe...Bill, if you want some catharsis, blow up the gopher in the first few minutes! I just think there's so many actors jumping on that project, NBC has so many people good for it - write a decent plot and let some good riffing actors let take it on

I was born in 1979 and somehow missed Caddyshack until yesterday. I love Chevy Chase and Bill Murray, but I don't get the love for this movie. Maybe it had to hit you earlier in your life? I found it painfully unfunny other than a few funny lines here and there.

“Animal House became dated pretty quickly”. Horrible take Bill, quite possibly your worst. We quoted that movie in college during the mid-90’s, and I guarantee college kids today still have toga parties.

I never got the hype for Animal House, I thought all the characters were garbage and spoiled rich kids. The kids in Revenge of the Nerds are better.

Animal House remains to me one of the 5 funniest comedies ever. I love Caddyshack which may have more laughs per minute, but Animal House is a much better movie in terms acting, writing, score, and the way we typically review movies. It's a perfect ensemble and I like that not everyone is a star too.
