As with most others, we are very slow at the moment. I had this Cadillac DTS sent to me from another shop and thought the process might interest some viewers. Cadillac can be a problem to diagnose, or at least we get a lot here that come from other shops. I hope you enjoy it. Like, share subscribe. And don't forget our Amazon affiliate link www.amazon.com/shop/joesautoe...

Good to see you hanging in there Joe. You're absolutely right, the whole world is feeling the pain. Crazy to think how in a few short weeks a huge powerhouse city like NYC can basically shut down. Would love to visit your shop again whenever this mess blows over...hopefully sooner rather than later.

@@JoesAutoElectric : l agree with you💯%. I've used the same diagnosis approach always especially when it comes to electrical or electronic issues with vehicles. I've been at it for nearly 45 years so I've gained a lot of experience. I'm in Toronto Canada and it's same thing here where COVID-19 is concerned. My oh my what an absolute mess this thing is. Never seen anything like this after nearly six decades of life. Anyway God bless you and your family and stay safe.

An explanation to me is as good as showing it in real time. When I go to classes most of what they do and show is case studies. I feel explaining it as you do is the same thing as setting in those class and I feel both are very helpful! Thanks Joe.

Thanks for the videos and this is my first comment. I have a 2006 Cadillac DTS 190,000 miles, I bought for 500 dollars, ran like crap and alot wrong. Note anything engine wise all the the local shops would not even touch told me to go to the dealer, and quotes for the suspension issues were over 4 grand, I fixed everything for under 1500 and probably 40 hours of manual labor over time and lots of time bargain shopping the internet for parts lol.. Changed all coil packs, spark plugs (acdelco expensive ones) and flushed oil system, instantly car ran 100 percent better. Flushed transmission fluid (car was kinda jumping between 2-3 oil was in terrible condition), flushed power steering fluid, flushed antifreeze, flushed brake fluid, and replaced all calipers/pads/rotors. I manually rebuilt alot of the front end, wheel bearings, control arms, tie rods, ball joints, struts/coil assembly, and main drive belt, and oil filter adapter gasket. In rear replaced, rear lateral links, and converted air shocks to coil overs. Also did my own alignment with a measuring tape. My car has never been to the shop other then estimation of fixes. I am almost to 201,000 and I love the car.

Joe , years, ago pre O.B.D.2 the shop I worked at had A ( Allen Test) Smart scope you had to follow all the steps to complete a test, and then move to the next set of steps rinse and repeat, But the first step before you got underway was always the same, and it uncovered a lot of problems. Step 1 check battery terminals than load test battery, check charging system check for excess A/C ripple the process was slow but it forced you to check each subsystem, and we solved a number of problem cars by just being forced to take a logical diagnostic path. stay safe Pete m

To watch you troubleshoot such a nightmare and to go straight to the basics without letting your brain go into overload is a priceless lesson. Please continue to make videos such as this, using logical thinking combined with schematics. Modern day electronics is the proverbial 800 pound gorilla in the room. But, through your instruction and ability to clarify problems it is becoming common, more often than not, to knock that gorilla onto his ass. Thank you. Semper Fi, USMC.

If this was from a garage I’d find this to be unacceptable. I hate when people play mechanic and either make things worse or waste a bunch of money and not fix the problem. I know sometimes things can get tricky and there’s always special occasions, but this is not one of them. Like you said pretty basic. But if it’s a person trying to fix there own car I can understand all the parts due to needing the knowledge and equipment to diagnose the vehicle. Wiring diagrams are hard to come by without a pay service now a days. Thanks for the video. Best wishes.

One example i can give is a Appliance Tech was called to this gentleman house for microwave and washer he stated the microwave was to far out for fixing and the washer need a clutch job. Well i came to find out the microwave need a magnetron and capacitor. The washer i put in diagnose mode and it actually needed was a motor i put the parts in the microwave got it fixed put the motor in and away it went. Seems to me that apparently the time wasnt put in correctly. Basicly what I'm saying i apply these techniques to these issues and it pans out most of the time THANK YOU JOE

Glad to see that you are good. Nice video. And like the other viewers have said time and just reading a code throw a part at cost you more in the end and maybe customers. Also and I had this issue, not taking the time to understand the code description. So I started working it so I study the TSBs and code descriptions on my time so that the customer gets what they pay for. If I lack the knowledge why should the customer have to be the one to pay for my education or worse yet my mistakes. Y'all have a great Easter and stay strong.

Great video, learning more & more about my '07 DTS. This model has more of the wierdest stuff go wrong with it!! 1) A while back, I couldn't put more then 1 gallon of gas in the tank at a time. A trip to the dealer (who never heard of this problem, even had his mechanic take it for gas & the same problem) solved it. Turns out 2 days later, I get a call that the "roll over" valve (activates if & when there's a rollover so that gas doesn't come out the fill tube) flipped into the "closed position". I never hit any major hole or did anything to cause this but he said they needed to drop the tank to repair it. 2) More recently, I'm out doing errands, I shut the car off & the key won't come out of the ignition switch. Tried many times, jiggled the shifter around, stepped on the brake, etc., etc. OK, call the dealer again - again he never heard of this either. Drop it off & wait for the call. Another 2 days later they find the problem, after disassembling the steering column, - the rear fuse block is bad - that's the "good news" - the bad news - they don't make 'em anymore, even after market doesn't have 'em. He finally found 1 on the West coast & fixed it. I don't have to tell you how much that cost me. 3) Power steering line - if you look on top of the Northstar, the power steering line runs across the top of the engine and down the passenger side of the engine. It rubs on that "pretty" Northstar cover enough to make it start to weep. Problem is - that's right over the exhaust manifold & I don't like "surprise fires". I take it in, explain the problem & ask them to put a slightly longer hose on & maybe re-route it. NOPE!!! Same type hose - rubs in the same spot - I put a piece of heater hose over it at the "rub spot". Very poorly designed car, I love it ......BUT.....!!
