Back in the early 90’s, my brother lived in Philadelphia and worked in York sometimes. He knew about your band and played me Mental Jewelry and I played that CD to death. I was a teenage drummer back then. I loved your playing so much but you guys weren’t popular yet and it felt like a little secret. Then I saw Neil Peart give you a shout out as one of his favorite new drummers in a Modern Drummer article and I was so excited. I felt like I had good taste! Funny to think back to my teenage logic from 30 years ago. I’m so excited to see you play this on KZfaq. Still sounds amazing after all these years.

You ever see the 1994 performance of this. It’s live in I guess South America, Ed has long hair for reference. Anyway, it’s one of the best rock performances I’ve ever seen. Just straight up talent and energy. Chad is insane in it, the whole band rocks their asses off. And yeah the bass playing is so damn nasty

😂 oh shit. Hey Chad, you rock man, great drummer. In all honesty I was talking to the other guy, I didn’t expect you to answer. I guess it was Brazil, just a great performance, nothing fancy, no flashing lights, no pyrotechnics, just kick ass music and musicians and your energy and skill in the back steals the show I grew up in the 90’s the rock was so damn good. I still listen to Throwing Copper regularly. Thanks for the music, keep rocking!

Been a massive fan since Death of a Dictionary. Been to twenty of your concerts. Thanks for the incredible music over the last 30 years. Your drumming is so underrated. You should be up there with the greats. I have an old bootleg of your rare drum solo on Good Pain- Phenomenal.

Stumbled upon Live back in early 90s while in college. Being a drummer, really appreciated Chad’s taste and what he chose NOT play vs crowding a song. Just ahead of his time. Drums on that album sounded so good. I drove 30 miles to the closest music store just to find Attack! drum heads lol!!

This was the song that hooked me, but man I always assumed the shaker was overdubbed! And that tiny wear pattern on the snare- you’re a precision machine! Oh, and if you ever need an opening act... ;)

We were working on this song in my bedroom in 1990 and there was a wicker shaker with bottle caps in it that CT got somewhere. I just felt inspired to pick it up and use it in this song. Never overdubbed. 😁😁

I was a teenager in the early 90's, who grew up right on the banks of the Susquehanna, in Wrightsville. So, naturally this has always been one of my very favorite songs. That bass, and those drums truly enter your ears, and go straight to the soul. Amazing to find this video, and watch you just jamming the F out of it. Instantly liked/favorited. Thanks for posting!!

Hi Chad, my favorite radio station, it’s a small university, plays this song every once in a while and I absolutely love it. They just played it today, thank you DJ Rin! They must love this song because they kept it in their library. Some songs get taken out of the library permanently… But not this one! I just subscribe to your channel. 😊❤❤❤

Whats up. Stick are Promark 5A but with their active grip coating on them. Comes in black and I thought it would be cool to have black sticks. The coating gets ever so tacking when your hands warm it up. Its amazing!

Randomly this song came in my head today. I was reminded of my college dorm room where I blared this song through every speaker I had available closing my eyes to envision the high hats on the bridge of this song. I never could figure it out, never could imagine how all of that was accomplished. So, on a whim, I searched KZfaq for live drummer pain riverside and voila… Chad, Brother, I never knew your name. Should have. My ability to understand music was till forming… but wow, you started a love affair with high hats for me. Even today, in my 50’s, I have referenced Mental Jewelry for mixes, the drums and cymbals were so present in the mix, and so “alive” (excuse the pun.) Thank you for blowing my mind then, and today when I finally got to see you play that bridge. WOW!!!!! And yes, I will go subscribe to your podcast right now. Cheers

@scottmocha3981 Whats up Scott! First I appreciate the comments and the follow. I made this channel for people like you. I am glad you found it. The high hats....A lot of my hi hat work on this song was really inspired by Larry Mullen Jr (U2) and songs like Sunday Bloody Sunday. I just sped up what Larry would do. White discussion is another I use this technique. It's so cool that you really like my high hat work. As far as the mix....that was the mix engineer with a little input from me here and there. Keep on rockin!!
