I always used to believe that "piano" meant "soft"! Beautiful singing, as always --- I wish I could hear more of it.

The instrument was originally known as the pianoforte. Unfortunately, the impromptu iPhone recording picks up more of the accompaniment than the superb vocalist.
@theorangebanana1127 күн бұрын
@@nmccw3245 That is actually incorrect, The problem lies with Cai he is not projecting loud enough. This can happen through the teen voice transition, still good to see him back performing.

Funny that his old treble Suo Gan came up on my feed the other night. So good to hear him now as a fine baritone. Hope someday to see him at Opera Santa Fe where we go every year or somewhere else. I am sure he will have a fine career.

Very enjoyable Cai, you have a wonderful and smooth voice that has almost reached its maturity. I could listen to you sing all day and hope that maybe there will be a chance of another album in the near future with a couple of tracks singing a duet with your younger self, or with Freddie. 👏👏👏👍👍👍

Great to see and hear you again, getting acquainted with voice change has to be an interesting experience for you. With a bit of age and your great musicianship it will be a pleasure to watch your beautiful baritone develop but it would be even better to hear you a capella without any accompanist to overwhelm your voice.

once again the piano is far too loud. I wanted to hear Cai singing, not being drowned out by the piano. Keep going Cai you have a beautiful voice.

Completely agree. The piano is awful.
@mikegalvin980127 күн бұрын
This is a KZfaq problem apparently. I see it in many accompanist videos all of whom say it didn't sound that way live.
@theorangebanana1127 күн бұрын
Thats actually incorrect, as you can see the piano lid is closed and the pianist is playing at a normal volume. the problem is Cai, He is not projecting enough, which means you cannot hear him over the piano as you can see the recording is done closer to Cai then the piano so he should be louder as well. But it is still good to see him singing again and going through this teen transition.
@pheobewilson238325 күн бұрын
@@theorangebanana11it’s nothing to do with how much cai is projecting. It is to do with the iphone mic and it picks up the piano more clearly than his voice. When i record my singing i have the same problem but has nothing to do with how loud i am actually singing
@martyheresniak520324 күн бұрын
@@theorangebanana11 Projection is such a silly term. You don't want to project sound, you want to fill the space all around. That comes from having resonance in the voice before it leaves you. Going from a young soprano to a still-young baritone he has not yet grown into his still-developing adult resonance. At least he is not pushing to make a sound that is past his current abilities. There are some techniques to achieve that resonance that would serve him well, but that's between him and his voice teacher. They're both doing a great job.

@@theorangebanana11 You really don't know what you're talking about. "Project" is a term that has no relevance in the voice world. It's used by people who don't know what's really happening vocally. No reputable voice pedagogue would use that word.

It is very hard to get the balance right especially when recording on a phone, its not the pianist or cais fault

@NeilABliss28 күн бұрын
Even with a phone you can get better balance. Just need to place the piano off axis. Had you been on the left looking towards Cai, the piano would have been in a much leader part of the microphone, and thus balance would be better. Not sure it would resolve the issue, but worth a try.

All these wannabe young 'singers' on KZfaq and Tiktok should watch this for a change! Only with perfect technique can one sing a difficult peace like this. All these weird chord and mood changes in the song: such a perfect day, or was it? ... Nice that you did this one again, now with your current bariton. It's already more steady then a year ago. Please make a Radio-Pop-version of this one!

@@theorangebanana11 : You are deluded. It is the sound engineer/editor' fault. If the point of the video is to hear the soloist, the video is improperly done if the accompanist is louder than the soloist. The pianist is quite professional and competent but his performance is not what we came to hear.
@alisononthego614426 күн бұрын
@@pilotusa They are using an iPhone, so there is no sound engineer. Iphones usually pick up what the person holding the phone is hearing. The lid on the piano is closed, I think projection may be an issue based on this and previous recordings. In any case, I don't know why people complain, these recordings are put up for free and are clearly ameteur recordings.
@pilotusa26 күн бұрын
@@alisononthego6144 : If they are suing an iPhone then the accompanist needs to be more "piano" and less "forte".
@martyheresniak520321 күн бұрын
@@theorangebanana11 You are the one who is incorrect. Projection is a non-term in the singing world. This is about resonance, which happens INSIDE, not anything with pushing the sound out.
@JoseighBlogs27 күн бұрын
Sadly the piano is far too present over the singing voice. For heaven's sake pianist tone it down.
@caithomas278727 күн бұрын
Hi. Unfortunately there’s not much we can do about this when recording on a phone. The pianist played the accompaniment very well and it only comes across too loud in the recording and not in real life. I hope to record some more pieces and to record them with better sound and picture quality. Thank you for watching this though 😊

Agree. To fund good accompanists is rare. Plus who is recording doesn't think to move the singer away from the piano. Really horrible recording and did no justice to the boy's lovely voice.
