Caitlin Clark became the first rookie in WNBA history to record a triple - also the first in Indiana Fever franchise history by any player - in helping the team to a 83-78 signature win over the New York Liberty. NY had not just beaten them three times before, they had demolished them. But not today.
Clark had 19 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists, Aliyah Boston added 18 points and 8 rebounds in a Fever win. They trailed by 11, but hung in there. They closed the game on a 19-6 run, including 12 in a row.
Their response and locking down on defense played a big role. They had a different attitude about them in this win. The Liberty shot just 23.8% from range in their fourth loss of the season (17-4).
The Fever now have wins over the Mercury and Liberty in two of the last three games.
0:00 Clark, Boston
06:53 Christie Sides

About a month ago I posted, somewhere, that the Fever would really start to move when AB started going straight to the rim. Recently she seems to be doing that - both to open up for a pass and to score. She is a Force - very tough to stop. CC will find her teammates if/when they're open. The players are starting to adjust the 'move without the ball and be ready for a pass at any time' style of play. This is the old Larry Bird Celtics method. It still works today. CC is a key cog but AB and Mitchell are powerful forces for the Fever.

They're one of the best. Good players and well coached. They'll cruise to the playoffs and may very well win it. But they're also part of an wnba old guard that may be passing away. Reese has shown that wnba rebounding is weak. And good for her for exploiting that. Refereeing is also weird and inconsistent in most games. I think this newfound scrutiny and " eyeballs " will clear a path for better, safer basketball gir these talented women.

I don't know about no dirty plays. The Liberty definitely received a majority of the calls. They show very few replays of the fouls that are called, but the variance between FTs taken by each team must have been pretty big.

Peole forget just how stacked a roster the Fire have. Aliyah Boston: Selected 1st overall in the 2023 WNBA Draft. Caitlin Clark: Selected first overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Kelsey Mitchell: 1st round, 2nd overall pick (2018) NaLyssa Smith: 1st round, 2nd overall pick (2022) Aliyah Boston: 1st round, 1st overall pick (2023) Grace Berger: 1st round, 7th overall pick (2023) Lexie Hull: 1st round, 6th overall pick (2022) All they really needed was a chance to jell. Im picking them as legue champs this year and years to come, I mean hell, 7 1st rounders (5 the 1st or 2nd pick)! I cant even think of any NBA team that was this stacked, not even MJ Bulls for that matter. I might need to do a little research on that though.

This from Feb 2024: The Indiana Fever announced today the team signed forward Damiris Dantas to a multi-year contract. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed. The No. 12 overall pick in the 2012 WNBA Draft last played in 2022 with the Minnesota Lynx. In 2022, Dantas averaged 5.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and played 17.4 minutes per contest in 15 games played. “Dantas gives us a WNBA veteran with experience in the post and her international experience in the Olympics will also benefit our team,” General Manager Lin Dunn said. “She will be a tremendous addition on both ends of the floor as well as in our locker room.” In eight seasons played in the WNBA, Dantas averaged 7.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest in 202 games played with 128 starting appearances. The 6-foot-3 forward was also a member of the Brazilian National Team in the 2016 and 2012 Summer Olympics. Side note: Dantas missed opening week of training camp due to visa and family issues, then had a knee injury. She was activated last month when Celeste Taylor was waived.

Please, someone send this to Sides to keep handy for the next time a reporter invites her to make the case for Caitlin to be chosen as Rookie of the Year: Fastest rookie in WNBA history to record 100 points and 50 assists Caitlin and Sabrina Ionescu are the only rookies within WNBA history to score 150+ points, 50+ rebounds, and 50+ assists in their first 10 career games Fastest rookie to reach 350+ points and 150+ assists First rookie in WNBA history to record 30 points, 3 blocks, and 3 steals in one game First rookie AND fourth player overall in WNBA history to record a stat line of 30-5-5-3-3 (30 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks) Scored 30 points in 2 different games (LA Sparks and Mystics) Leads all rookies in scoring and assists Averaging 16.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game Is third in the entire WNBA in assists
