Actually, their dialect is closer to the 16th century French from New Brunswick, Canada. Would make a great thesis.

(Folks are too uptight up here, they can't follow it.) I dropped my jaw when I heard it for the first time! Hooked ever since. Thank you for the video.

There is A sad song about Napoleon selling Louisiana to France and honestly, I wish he had not, though we love the USA, because for a long time they did not let children speak their mother tongue, and the language died among many generations.
