Many of you have requested a video on how to make an edible gold paint without using alcohol. In today's video I'll be doing a bit of an experiment and testing out a few different non-alcoholic alternatives that you can use to paint your buttercream cakes :)

Good tips. Vanilla essence is expensive alternative compared to the rest, plus it’s got alcohol in it. I really like the vegetable oil look. 🙌💕

Thanks Kathleen! :) The vanilla essence I used in this video was a flavoured vanilla essence so didn't contain alcohol, but yes the non-alcoholic versions can be harder to find, and like you said - more expensive than other options. I loved how the vegetable oil came out too! :)

Thank you for this test!! I have just one question, did you taste all 4 of them? When i want to paint a whole cake with (for example) vegetable oil, will this make my buttercream taste different?..

You're welcome Daphne! Hmmm good question - in all honesty I've never painted an entire cake using the vegetable oil. I know when painted on a drip it's okay because you're only using a small amount and the chocolate itself has oil in it, but I'm not so sure about when painting an entire buttercream cake. Sorry about that!!
