But while he's good and elegant on the football which is reminiscent of the great Paolo Maldini, I feel he has this continental mindset, having played in Switzerland, that makes the idea of coming to England an attractive prospect for him. And for that, I'm immensely grateful and excited he'll be coming to Arsenal. It's not often we get to see an Italian defender in the EPL. I can only readily recall Christian Panucci who played briefly for Chelsea in the early 2000s. And then, of course, Marco Materrazi's stint with Everton. The rest have been attackers and they aren't much-just a handful actually. As a matter of fact, they were in the twilight of their careers when they came to England. But then, the EPL wasn't this big back then. The Italian Serie A was the number-one league back then. When I look at how mid-table teams like Brighton, Wolverhampton, or Fulham can spend so much to bring in a top player from Portugal, France or Latin America, it just brings up memories of how it used to be in the Serie A back then. You'd see mid-table teams like Parma, Sampdoria, Udinese or Fiorentina being the places younger top players from outside Italy can find spots to play. Take for example, Crespo, Thuram and Cannavaro were team mates in Parma before they finally made the step up to the top teams like Juventus, Milan, etc

Every few years there's some team which defies expectations. Atleti, Leicester, Monaco, Spurs, Ajax, Leverkusen. It's a combination of many factors. One thing we see in every one of them, is some players were overrated.

I've always had a similar feeling about anyone who talks football for a living. It's just outright lazy to have limited football knowledge outside the EPL. How hard is it to watch continental football when that is literally your job. I'm not saying watch every match going but your football knowledge should be a tad thorough and robust.

Backline of Calafiori, Big Gabi, Wilo and White is hands down the best in the league. We just need that left hand side in midfield sorted and I think Mikel has the best squad he'll ever get.
