This documentary takes a look back at teen prisoners in a maximum-security juvenile prison who had spent months behind bars and were preparing for the most nerve-racking day of their lives: their parole hearings. Our cameras spent weeks following the teens, prison parole board members and corrections officers as the teens prepared for their day in front of the parole board. In this story, we see teenager Hunter talk to us about what landed him in prison--an addiction to drugs and bad behavior in a detox facility. Hunter talks about the love and support of his family and how he's turned his life around in prison. We also meet teenager Keandre, who is serving time for burglary and issues stemming from his childhood. Both teens hope that their time in front of the parole board members will convince the board they're ready to be released, but it's up to the parole board to decide if either boy is ready to go home or stay behind bars a while longer.

Of course people's opinions on a committee effect each other. "Group think" is not a phrase that can simply dismiss the outcome of a group decision. No decision is made entirely independent of outside influence. The studies on group think are not intended to help people avoid being influenced by groups; rather, it is to make us think about things that influence us and to help us ask deeper questions on why we do this or that. The idea that group think could be gotten rid of entirely would make societal living impossible.

I am glad Hunter has made it this far. I hope he keeps holding on. I was doubtful of him with that big of a drug problem and he said he wanted to go back and be with his friends. I was thinking that could be the worst thing he could do but he overcame so I applaud him. I also hope he is still holding on to God. I believe God got him through.

@@anthonygrayson948sometimes the punishment isn’t proportional to the crime committed. If cannabis was legal nationwide we would have lower incidence of hard drug use. Just look at states that have legalized. Alcohol and painkiller use declines. I was drawn into the criminal for possession of cannabis. Even to this day I’m considered a felon for possessing more than 14 grams of cannabis. Absolutely ridiculous. Who was I hurting that I needed to be sentenced to a year in state prison. As it stands I can drive my car 100 miles north and legally possess cannabis.

Isn't it interesting how serious they were with the white kid. Then the black kid, Mr. Arnold, it was a laugh factory that he stole a 46" TV and was caught running down the street with it and then more laughter getting caught having sex in the school bathroom, almost like they were glorifying his actions as good and no big deal. What type of message does this send to the kid, that it's ok? The parole panel should be reprimanded for this bad behavior!

The second boy seemed to have potential but in the interview it became apparent that he had a habit of lying where he would do something wrong and deny it. I was not convinced he learned not to bully and extort anymore and when his mom was talking it felt like he was just being polite but it was going in one ear and out the other. When he said he wanted to be a gynecologist it felt like a pervert. That was uncomfortable because he was the guy that was caught having sx in the bathroom. I don’t know if it was homosexual sx that might have been forced or did he go in the girl’s bathroom? If so what was he doing in there? That just didn’t feel right either. Nevertheless I felt like maybe he could make it. I didn’t expect he would get out and go straight into car jacking and attempted murder. That’s awful! He had a chance but he blew it.

I will say it wasn't lost on me that you hadn't seen your mom in a year even though you were just 20 miles away and it made me wonder if you really were going to have the amount of support you truly needed. And I was wondering if you would have been better off staying a few more months to a year if it meant that you would be stronger rather than getting out when you did and risk not being ready.

@robertprice5243 - good question! Technically, there is no such thing as parole for juveniles who are still in the juvenile system. I think the fact that he was still in the behavioral unit says something too. It seems like one should have to work their way out of the behavioral unit before being released. And they should have to prove they can stay off the behavioral unit for a certain amount of time before being released as well. If they can’t stay out of the behavioral unit then how are they going to stay out of trouble when released? It should be common sense.

It's not a matter of saying anything. Most truly believe they'll do better but they get out and return to the same neighborhoods, same friends, same families and within no time the same bad habits. Remove troubled kids from familiar surroundings allows them to truly start fresh but unfortunately that's rarely possible and aftercare is nonexistent.

@cynthiadavid5282 - Yes, it's very sad when kids return to the system. Unfortunately, they often do well when they have structure and aren't faced with the same stressors they have on the outside, and many do think they're ready to go home. But once they're faced with the same environment that got them in trouble in the first place and have no vision or hope that any other kind of life exists, it's just too easy to fall back into the same bad habits. Yes, some make it and others don't, but that usually depends on a strong support system or at least ONE caring adult in their life who can help them see a better way. We always hope for the best! Thanks as always for watching and commenting!

the second kid, Kendrea Arnold I knew he would be back in the incarceration system probably for drugs, robbery, burglary or fraud. For someone who plans on being a gynecologist, he already stepping out wrong, leaving out the prison with pants sagging. During his interview I just saw all of a narcissistic habitual liar with no plans, goals, or ambitions. Anything is possible but he stated that he really is not motivated with education, obtained only three credits of schooling while incarcerated but he plans on being a gynecologist and his backup plan is to be a barber. that's a far stretch of career goals. His mother gave a good speech but let's be real. She is a single mother who obviously physically can't control maladaptive habits. How can she control her household and this kid when she has no control over bad habits and her health.
