I think it’s also because his guitar solo in the original recording got buried in the mix. You can hear bits and pieces of it if you listen closely but it’s definitely not as prominent as it is in this live performance. A shame, really.

Get a halfway decent stereo and some good headphones and listen to this song on his first album. The solo is buried in the mix but he absolutely just rips it up. I picked up on it way back then but was so disappointed that there wasn't more where that came from. Poor guy hit the scene when record producers were becoming narrow minded and, of course, MTV executives were all idiots. He didn't get much video play because he didn't look like the effeminate L.A. rockstar.

Before I had heard this song, back when it was first released, I kept getting a mysterious phone call where no one spoke; they just played the refrain of this glorious song and then they’d hang up the phone. This continued every day for about a week. It was haunting and naturally a bit unnerving. WHO was calling me and WHAT was this incredible song?? Well, several weeks later I found out my older brother was pranking me and I guess he just knew I would love the song. Needless to say I bought that album within the week and wore it out. What a great song and a great memory.
