So from the GOAT…I want to transition to the #1 overall pick who is looking to make his own mark on this league. Caleb Williams spoke to the media yesterday…and was asked about being a little and the expectations that have been put on this team already this season.
How could you not love his mentality? The fact that he’s studying other QBs who have won - not just for their play on the field - but the way they carry themselves and support their teammates…it’s next level.
And I’m glad that he understands that winning in this league is about more than just talent. The bar is high for this team already. Fans are expecting this thing to click right away…FanDuel is giving them minus odds to get into the playoffs…I think anything less is going to be a disappointment.
But the path is not going to be easy…not just because the NFC North is loaded…but because it is RARE to see 1st round QBs get to the playoffs in year 1
Since 2000, only 9 of the 69 1st round QBs have gone to the playoffs in year one. Only 4 of those actually won a playoff game. And you look at these guys…whether it’s Stroud last year or Big Ben 20 years ago…they all kind of developed that chemistry with their teammates that Caleb is talking about right out of the gates.
And as tough as that is…if there’s a QB and a team that’s built to join this list…I think it’s Caleb Williams and these Chicago Bears. Most 1st round QBs don’t walk into a situation like Caleb has…and most teams that have a roster like these Bears don’t get the chance to draft a rookie QB as talented as he is. I can’t wait to see how this season plays out.
