Why do you forget the crippling poverty? Indians are much better off now! This video only represents rich people more or less. The Indian economy was a meagre 60 billion $ then, now it's more than 50 times with a much better standard of living (HDI). India in 1960s was a boiling bowl of poverty

If you have went to kolkata in the so called peaceful 1970s that is mentioned in the above comment then you would see that far more children are begging on the road, far more poverty far more underdeveloped roads and etc. I didn't even say that living standards is good now. What I argued is simply kolkata in 2020s is a better place to live than 1970s. You can search how many people were uplifted from poverty after 1990s . Even eminent economists agree on this. You search india poverty reduction, india HDI, everything! You'll see the change

Obviously now also we are a poor country only. We are not out from it yet. But my point is it has reduced. Telling a time peaceful just because a upper middle class enjoyed this virtually competition less era although other people sufferedthen it is not worth it. You will see in the video that only filthy rich people are shown.

@pp lai no one asked them to build these things. Railway was built to transport raw materials to the ports. The amount of plunder britishers did is second to none perhaps can only be compared to belgian king leopald's deeds in congo. And they did it with the help of rich zamindars.

@@uddeshyakumar2626 clap doesn't take place with one hand if two hands are not involved. Our countrymen helped them in plundering so they plundered. it's just like planting banyan tree in your house and later blaming the banyan tree for destoying and breaking your house

“Calcutta didn’t exist before the English” this is false. There were records of highly concentrated populations in and around the areas of sutanuti. The English only fortified the central parts of Calcutta where they would reside, the rest was filth.

actually Calcutta emerged as a prime city of India after English invasion. Prior that, Murshidabad was the most prominent city.
