Certainly my favorite horse of of the new century, Cigar being my favorite of the last century, and having the good fortune of seeing both horses run several times with myself in attendance, wow, awe-inspiring to say the least

I wish they would make a movie of him because alot of people think he lost because he wasn't fast enough or didn't have enough stamina. But he lost because he had fatigue and his front right foot had a chunk taken off by the horse on his right so instead of winning he got a respectable 4th.

After both the Derby & Preakness wins, Chrome looked like he'd just sauntered a block or two, as if they required no effort at all--talk about passing the 'eye-ball test.' So he didn't join the elite eleven TC winners, he's still a champion. Great job, Chrome. You ARE a rock star:)

He ran on only 3 good feet due to the injury to his right front foot coming out of the gate. I believe he would have won it had he not been injured.

not even those 11 triple winners endured the same road as California Chrome were not gonna change the rules of the road to the triple crown just to suit anybody's horse so they can win it the easy way that's why it's so hard to win.... it shows the heart of a champion that's what separates a good horse from the great horses changing the rules would diminish the victory of that particular race as long as it's not a danger to the horse is health they should leave well enough alone

Well, Matterhorn and his jockey ruined Chromes chances for a crown BUT heck, Chrome didn't need that crown after all. He retired end of 2016 as the richest race horse in North America as planned and made close to $15million and took his Team and us fans across the pond a couple times. What fun we fans are STILL having with Chrome since he's been retired and happily dancing to the breeding shed here in the USA then down with his Chilean Team in the Southern Hemisphere to tend to his mare book there. He's one happy, healthy, playful boy now a days. We're all very grateful for being able to witness all Chrome and his team have accomplished in the four years he raced and even now as a stallion. This has been a great learning experience for us all. GO CHROME!

I think CC is allot more talented then some people seem to think. Keep in mind none of the other horses who placed ahead of him raced in (both) of the other 2 events. Many experts have said 3 races in 5 weeks really is expecting too much. CC 100% fresh against those other horses even in the Belmot i say CC wins.

He should have and would have BUT throwing Matterhorn , the crazy horse, in next to Chrome sure took that plan away. pfffffffft. Well planned I'm sure. Because Chrome was a Cal bred that seemed to make a lot of elite people very mad to see him beat their million dollar horses. To the point where they had to have extra security for Chrome where ever he went. Humans can be real sicko's some times.

AnimalKingdom Ok from what I gather the Breeders' Cup Classic is held annually at different racetracks as part of the Breeders' Cup and are always held in US except for the 1996 edition held at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto., Canada, and of course the Breeders' Cup is an annual series of Thoroughbred horse racing held on a single day, unlike the Breeders' Cup Classic. It was a single-day event; starting in 2007, it expanded to two days. All sites have been in the United States, except in 1996, when the races were at the Woodbine Racetrack in Canada. Hope this helps!

Bless his heart. Everybody says he ran out of gas, and he did, but I still think the jockey performed poorly and either cost him either the win or better finish. Regardless, CC would still have won with proper rest or against horses that were not as fresh. The mile and half as opposed to the mile and quarter was not the factor here. The horse has it. The owner was bitter in the post race interview, but he was right as rain. Congrats to the other horses anyway. They are all champions. They really are.

His front right foot was stepped on and he had a chunk taken out by the horse on his right named Matterhorn, he was running on 3 good legs for almost the whole thing, he had fatigue too and it is amazing that he got 4th.Imagine if none of that happened.

Thank you for writing the true account of the injury. I just wish the confirming pix showing the injury would have gotten more coverage. I do disagree about him being fatigued enough to have cost him the TC. I think Old School Art Sherman had him in perfect condition, and there's no doubt CC always wanted to win. Am still sad about it.

What got him beat at belmont was a mile and a half at the third different track in five weeks after runing two very hard races in the Derby and the Preakness all the Shiping and traveling and stress etc. Etc. Etc. !!!;!!! That incidentally all the so called experts said emphatically wouldn't bother him at all.

CC was hurt. He did not start too fast. He was stepped on...seriously. Hope you saw the pix of the injury because they show clearly what happened to him. He didn't run out of gas. He was hurt. At least two other folks noted the situation in later posts--one saying that "He ran with an injury that would stop many horses in their tracks."
