Why, Why, WHY didn't anyone realize Maggie Smith and Michael Caine could have made a great movie of "Private Lives"?! It would have washed away the dreary miscast version with Norma Shearererer.

that would be her oscar nominated role as The Countess of Trentham in Gosford Park which actually what DA was based on.

No this role was not like the Countess at all. Diana is more modern and less stuffy. Maggie is a versatile actress, who unfortunately, has been typecast fir many years now.

Where did you get the idea the character Maggie played here was preparatory material for the Dowager Countess in Downton Abbey? They are totally different in personality, character, and in attitude in and out of their social circles.

@@rnw2739 I grant you much, but you have to admit: The modern American lifestyle of luxury and entertainment - enjoyed from within a Los Angeles-like setting - does appear to be the paradigm for most people and cities of the world today, for better or for worse. You still haven't explained the difference between "English" and "British" however.

Two English actors....not Brits. Brits could be English, Scottish or Welsh.... Caine and Smith are both English so no need for the vague 'Brit' umbrella term.

Dame Maggie and Michael Caine come from England. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 You may have heard of it as you seem to speak 'ENGLISH', It's been a country centuries before the umbrella term 'Britain' was ever formulated... and that was only to name the merger between England and Scotland in 1707.

Kindly don’t preach history to me as I studied early modern history to degree level in a BRITISH university.
