I’ve done weights for nearly 30 years. I’m strong af in bench, deadlifts, squats, pull ups , weighted dips etc, I’ve got rings and tried ring dips, holy shit that is difficult. 🤯

I’ve been training calisthenics for 10 years, can do pretty much all the variations of pushups and pull-ups, and can barely bench 225. 😅

@@Joru0906 it's going well. I'd recommend watching some FitnessFAQ or CaliMove video about getting started. If you just wanna get started right away, I recommend just doing the basics, that means Push ups, Pull ups, Dips, Inverted Rows and Pike Pushups. For legs you could also go for the basics like Squats/ Pistol Squats, RDL/Nordic curls, Calf raises and Hip Thrust. You could also throw in some ab focused exercises like hanging knee raises or planks after your upper workout. But if you are not obsessed about getting abs i would say that the basic calisthenic exercise train your abs well enough. Also if possible buy rings and/or a pull up bar, if you have both you can do things like dips, rows and pullups really easily at home. And if you use rings you'll get strong af cuz of the stability work that gets added. For reps I recommend 10-30, also watch some vids about rep range, they could help a lot.

@Bamboo Training But using bodyweight also adds muscle, take pull ups as an example, they're used in the gym too to build your back. I'm not denying that "real" weights provide a different stimulus, but at the end of the day what is more determinant is the weight itself (the mass), not its origin (bodyweight or an external object).

What about compound movements such as bench press? You are using multiple muscles at once right?
@afanoflafear

Yes but it doesn't work the core as much as it's bodyweight counterpart: push ups. That's not to say the bench press is a bad exercise, I just like how the push ups engage more muscles - for me at least.

Bro need your help! Recently I read "Convict Conditioning. How to Bust Free of All Weakness Using the Lost Secrets of Supreme Survial». An interesting book, but there are still questions about repetitions in one approach and the number of workouts per week. I have a lot of free time, so I want to start every exercise of the big six from the very first level. But I ran into a problem when compiling a training program, because in the book 1 day per week is given for each exercise (for example, push-ups are performed only on Mondays). Hence the question: is it possible to somehow speed up and increase the number of workouts of one muscle group per week, for example push-ups 3 times a week, etc. In order to speed up the process of passing the first levels, which are so easy, or still do not rush the process and give each level a month (in this case, it turns out that in 4 weeks there will be only 4 workouts of one muscle group (for example, pull-ups), which in my opinion is very little. I apologize for the large amount of text) thank you in advance for the answer!

Not discrediting the effectiveness of calisthenics, I must say that free weights lifts are also quite challenging. 500lb squat or deadlift, 400lb bench, or a 300lb snatch are not an easy task as well.

the point is you're only training a specific muscle on weights so you gain muscle on that specific area while bodyweight works out multiple muscles at the same time hence making you gain strength much more but you will less likely will build muscle much faster
