The forerunners of the American cowboy were the Mexicans who raised cattle in the area of present-day Texas, since its introduction in the 16th century, with the arrival of the Spanish. The domesticated animals were the specimens known as longhorns (named for their elongated horns), which roamed in a semi-wild state. The first Texan settlers started the open ranch system known as haciendas. The main economic activity was the raising of cattle that provided fat to make candles and also leather; agriculture was also of importance. Also, the gear appeared to be used by the new American colonizers. In California there were also skilled men on horseback, according to Richard Henry Dana, who wrote a book about that region in 1840 when it still belonged to Mexico. He as he describes: When they go on long days, they ride one horse until they tire it and grab another, throw the saddle and bridle on it, and after exhausting the animal, they take a third, and so on until the end of the trip. There are no better riders in the world.

actually they were Spaniards, who heavily exploited the native americans on these haciendas through forced labor and heavily underpaid contract labor...
@peleadorartesmarciales3 жыл бұрын
@@willemruysen2494 Sir, Mexicans are a mixture of precisely those Spaniards and those Native Americans that you mention, among other mixtures, but mainly Spanish with Native American, since Native Americans cover the entire continent and not the country that you call America and that is not called that but the United States of America, not only America, the Spanish were not the creators of the cowboy nor were they the Native Americans, it was that mixture that I mention those who created the cowboy since the Spaniards as masters did not get involved to do heavy work or that they considered dirty and degrading, for that they had the Mexicans, therefore the creators of the cowboy were the Mexicans and the "Americans" that is, the inhabitants of the current United States copied it or rather stole it together with more than half of the Mexican territory and they made it known to the world as their creation with western genre films, there would be no problem in imitating it, the problem is that they do not recognize its true creator which is Mexico and they take possession of it, even Wikipedia recognizes the origin of the cowboy in Mexico along with the rodeo, so do not invent things that are not, even if you do not want to recognize it, the cowboy is neither Spanish, neither Native American, nor "American", he is Mexican even if they envy and dislike him.
@willemruysen24943 жыл бұрын
@@peleadorartesmarciales yeah but calling them Mexicans is just so odd since neither of them would've identified themselves as such.The Spaniards would identify as Spaniards until the 18th Centruy, when the difference between ppl born in the new world and those born in Spain became bigger. The Natives probably identified as the tribe they were a part of before colonization happened.
