☆ in this video, I called different Goodwill locations, and I asked them about rising thrift store prices, which we all have seen and have probably been victims of these insane prices!!! I even saw someone post a picture on their Instagram story of a $400 shirt at a Goodwill once!! We got some good answers in this video, but I am still skeptical that Goodwill needs to raise their prices so much on inventory they get for FREE. What do you think? Leave a comment in the comment section!

Yes. It negatively affects the community. Why should you donate items when they overcharge for them ? I just leave the donation outside the drop boxes and whoever needs it will take it for free.Thats the point.Uncle Sam needs to back off.

Goodwill is a retail chain, do you argue with target or Walmart about prices? They don’t get everything for free, they have to pay salaries, electric,insurance, and they buy pallets of new stuff from target Home Depot etc.

I'm done donating to Goodwill. They are getting so greedy! I get inflation and want to increase employee pay, but you've also got to remember Goodwill has always been where families in poverty shop. They should be able to afford stuff easily and if I can't even afford to shop there anymore how can they?
@loetzcollector466

So you act like you're concerned about poor people, but your actual concern is you can't snatch it up instead of them so you can mark the prices up and screw poor people even harder? I don't know if there's a special place in hell for you, but there's at least a regular place there.

They’re using all of that as excuses. If it were true ALL items would be sky high. I’ve noticed it on mainly clothing that seems to be any kind of value, or antique items, etc… they are looking things up and being told to do so.

It's nothing but sheer greed. Everything is donated completely for free and they Jack the prices up more than what you pay at a retail store now. They've started to price each individual item separately and charge like $25 or $30 for a used pair of tennis shoes. It's all greed and gouging the consumer.
@NikaDaFreaka-vi3zz
@NikaDaFreaka-vi3zz 4 ай бұрын
No excuses they get items free and they shouldn’t over price used items to be in competition with companies that sell new items. And sometimes the old items costs more than the new items in some retail stores. Prices was raised to pay the CEO’s 💯

I always thought that goodwill was to help people who cant afford store prices, they get stuff donated and help us or less privelidged people and make money for doing it which is a win win, but things have changed little by little they quit selling certain items so they could monopolize on these items like jewelry and then they started their online store which i have never shopped on that its to expensive for used items! They stopped the dollar colors and dollar days! And i have not gotten any kind of discount from giving my number so thats bullshit its just sad that they always let the greed take over and it will probably blow up on em in the future!

Rising cost means a used trash can is the same price as a brand new one? Well that's unfortunate because it leads to people buying new waste to throw in landfills. Unfortunate

When Walmart has mark downs you can get stuff so cheap. I got so many clothes from Walmart on the seasonal mark downs i got packs of womens underwear for 3.00 originally priced at 16.99 i got flannel shirts for 1.00 i got pajama tops for less than a dollar i got a jacket thing that goes over cami tops for less than a dollar. The best way to buy cheap clothes is at seasonal mark downs that's usually any store but some cheaper than others.

it is ridiculous to find target stuff or Ross stuff priced more than the retails store itself - haha. Makes no sense they are competing with other retails stores - why? i thought they are there to help the community regardless of demand or resellers. They have no business what the buyers do with their purchases. They have no cost for the goods itself.

I just saw a paperback book at Goodwill with an original price of $6.95 printed on the back cover. Goodwill price was $4.99 !!! They have being instrumental in driving other thrift stores out of business in my city. Now they do whatever they want as they have zero competition. But thanks for the phony video, as if you’re so concerned. You’re doing PR!

Competition is not an excuse to raise prices, competition usually lowers costs by its nature. Goodwill is charging higher prices, because they can. If no one buys there then prices would go down or the store would go out of business.

All of that is understandable but most people donate to Goodwill so they can help the community. Low income and poverty families have always relied on this store for affordability and now that's not possible anymore. Completely defeats the purpose.

Like 50% of the stuff at Goodwill is more expensive than Walmart when you get it at Walmart brand new and use at Goodwill and it's usually like triple the price the Goodwill next to me is a drop-off spot for donations and still just like a t-shirt is $10 or more it's so wrong because they're getting the stuff for free and there's no transportation needed for this stuff because it's dropped off at the store

Problem with their excuses are corporate stores like Burlington,Ross,Target and Walmart have to pay for their merchandise and overhead getting no tax breaks. Thrift stoes get merchandise for free while getting tax breaks for so called charity work that don't do. 🤔

I understand things are get more expensive. I just don’t understand why it doesn’t click to some people that inflation is impacting ALL businesses small and large. It can be frustrating when shopping at the thrift you’re hoping for a cheap price. But employees need to be paid, and like you said gas prices have risen tremendously. as a past employee I appreciate you understanding some of the prices rising and the reasons why. People can be so mean to workers, as if it was our fault for an item being priced not to their liking. Goodwill really has so many great programs to help those in need. Especially for homeless youth. Okay but I’ve seen pictures of some of the things other stores are pricing things and I know the store I worked at would NEVER.

People are making great points about Goodwill's outrageous pricing. The points you mention simply don't account for the astronomical rise in prices. I appreciate your desire to give the benefit of the doubt, but I'm really afraid you've drank the corporate Koolaid. No one is attacking the workers personally, rather Goodwill as an entity. Please don't take these comments personally. It's not about individual employees.

Why are you giving them a pass? They get these items for free! So let’s just say they charge $3 per item if they have 100k items per month that $300k per month they are not paying their employees that much! The managers are only going to to take the side of the business. Talk to the ones that’s doing the work! Also look what the CEO’s are making! Also they are not none profit anymore! Not all thrift stores are over charging for items! This is not a real life view of why they have increased their prices it’s called GREAD!

These jerks have learned they can make a fortune off of vintage stereo nuts by putting the old analog receivers from makers like Pioneer, Technics, The Fisher, Marantz, Sansui, H.H. Scott, Realistic, Toshiba, and Kenwood on their auction site so bidding wars will drive the price of an old, most likely broken stereo unit that will need major servicing like re-capping from front to back, replacing burnt out dial lamps, realigning the tuner, replacing the tuning band, etc. into the hundreds of dollars where just putting it on the shelf locally would probably only get 20 or 30 bucks at most. They are profiting big-time by this smarmy move. They do this for tape decks, equalizers, turntables, and speakers as well. I think this is why I never see any decent components on the shelves of the Goodwills I shop in Jackson, TN anymore. It has been probably 4 or 5 years since I saw one single decent component on the shelves. Prior to that, I was seeing NICE Yamaha AV receivers, tape decks, nice speakers, etc. on the shelf on the regular. I have pretty much given up! And they have tons of nice, donated laptops. Those never make it to stores either. They also go to the auction site as does actual fine jewelry. Anything actually worth something goes to the auction site! The left-over trash goes to the stores.
