I remember growing up, adults used to complain about us and call us the generation without a cause. I always thought we should have been called the abandoned generation. The boomers ripped apart the family unit, and left us to raise ourselves. We didn't even have access to the internet like younger generations do to answer our questions and just had to deal with any problems on our own, and suffer in silence. Even today it's still not Gen X that is in power. It's mostly Boomers, that still hold onto positions of power. Sometimes the people in power are even too old to be Boomers. I'm not sure what people would complain about that Gen X has done. We haven't been in a position to hurt society more than it already was when we found it.
@btetschner
@btetschner Жыл бұрын
The only positions of power that the Baby Boomers have today are political positions and money. Since many of them have retired and there was the "pandemic," their money has diminished significantly. They certainly have a stranglehold on top political positions. That's ironic because they also can't avoid being the center of blame for the record-breaking decline the country has recently experienced.
@daveb5998
@daveb5998 Жыл бұрын
I'm Gen X and it wasn't the Boomers that tore the family unit apart, it was the leaders/rulers/decision makers that tore it apart. Just as we see today how the leaders/rulers/decision makers have corrupted the minds of Gen Z with the gay and trans agenda. Also, the formation of women's liberation was formed to break up the family home and also to tax BOTH parents. While we keep arguing about who's generation is better, the same leaders/rulers/decision makers keep using the same tactic against us. The other generations are NOT your enemy. The leaders/rulers and decision makers are OUR enemy.

One caveat - my parents did a pretty good job of providing a stable home life and encouraging my brother and I to explore and experiment, while always reminding us we had a place to fall back and parents to rely on if things went wrong. “We want to make sure you’re safe first, then we’ll deal with what you did wrong,” was the philosophy that permeated our home.

I have only been called out once. Was called a Boomer when I disagreed with a political ideology…. I began with, “I don’t really like to talk politics but for you this one time….. I’d be more than happy to discuss it.” It pretty much went down hill from there. The mental gymnastics were like watching Nadia Comaneci in the 1980 Olympics, but less impressive. Lesson taught that day….. Don’t go down the “If you don’t agree with me, then you are the enemy” thought process. I offered a way out of the debate several times but with every perceived “ah-ha” moment the person had… it was countered with historical fact. So basically the person was left with a shocked Pikachu face and serious knowledge about the failings of a two party system where the goal is to separate the masses by convincing the people to NOT vote their conscious regarding an individual but vote for the party instead.

Born in 1974. I grew up constantly hearing about plane bombings, survived Reaganomics, heat, endless chores that prepared me to take care of my own home, summer jobs (and we actially took pride in having one!), paddlings at school, and walking home if we missed the bus. I believe the problem with Millenials and Gen Z is that we didn't think the same things were good enough for them. Hard work made us stronger mentally and physically. Doing things ourselves bred ingenuity and creativity. Having chores taught us responsibility, productivity and was our first taste of the fact that something would always be expected of us. Growing up like this taught us self-sufficiency and gave us the single-minded ability to plan, prepare and execute. Millennials and Gen Z, where is your 'get-up-and-go'?

Comparing Gen Z to Gen X is like holding a Bud Light up against a 12-year-old, single-cask, Scottish whisky. The whisky doesn't dye it's hair pink or blue, need a safe space, believe in unicorns, get upset at words or a different point of view, or think the world owes it anything at all. It's just waiting for the Bud Light to say "Ok, I've been a tw4t. Help me. Guide me. Educate me." Historically, every generation has been slightly more emancipated, intelligent, and capable of standing on its own two legs than the previous generations...until millennials and Gen Z. Your words are pure inspiration, dear sir. We (The last generation to sharpened sticks), took our beatings in the thrushes of the most drastic changes. Since the invention of the wheel... Bearing the inherent rage of bygone generations, by the subconscious of those who raised us. Bore witness the incorporation of computers, changing our entire reality, within we grew up. We are the children, of a reality. We no longer possess. Yet the Younger can never conceive, in absence of it's experience.

Pre Gen X here.. today I worked out , went to the barber shop ( without an appointment or a Gropoun ) broiled some pork chops and baked potatoes for dinner ( didn't have to google that ) and wrote out my property tax check. I did that all without complaining to anyone on social media...OH and actually talked to a few people I didn't know before today...one gentleman was 101 years old and he congratulated me because I recently retired..34 years at one job...Gen X That !!!!

While in Basic Training (I went in June so there were a few dozen classes before me) one of my drill instructors made a statement I’ll never forget. He stated, “What is wrong with you people? It’s like you don’t care.” We weren’t off the charts, but we were hard to manage & do the military thing with pizzazz. That’s how I’ve lived my life. Not being lazy but just following the dance steps. Because, I’m doing my stuff, watching out for the older generation & making sure the younger generations are not being so stupid that I may lose a limb or worse. While growing up, I admit some of my actions & words were kinda skewed. But it was always during a controlled burn.

We can fix things….We’re patriotic……We were rebellious but we also had respect for authority figures…..mostly 🤔…..We had the 80’s, something you’ll never have……We had Bird, Jordan, the dream team, Real cartoons on Saturday morning, big wheels, played outside, VHS tapes, good movies, Bo Jackson, Terry Bradshaw, Mean Joe Green, Ronald Reagan, Cocaine, Ft. Lauderdale, the full bush and muscle 😮cars. We were latch key kids who became independent and strong… We weren’t afraid to leave home when we were 18 and join the United States Marines, yes I was a Marine. God bless Generation X…….Yes, we made a lot of mistakes along the way, but we weren’t afraid to try. 🤫 I love my 2 millennials and my 1 Generation Z kids, I wish you all the luck in the world!!🫡 I forgot, Motley Crue, Metallica, Michael Jackson and Mike Tyson.
