I remember trying Captain Crunch recently for the 1st time in 30-plus years, and I couldn't believe how easy it was to eat. I felt rage and yelled at my cereal the way a farmer might yell at rain that came too late to save his crops.

Your next video needs to be about the prizes! Oh how we agonized over cereal vs. The prize. Mailing off for the little 45s floppy records...waiting with baited breath for it to arrive in the mail..ahh yes..those were good times..good times indeed!

I also remember them well....I also remember going through the cereal aisle comparing EVERY different cereal in order to find the one with the best Free Toy inside, as we could ONLY pick one cereal, except at Christmas when we would get the MULTI-PACK...These were the days indeed.

I feel the most dangerous cereal was actually Grape Nuts. Even after sitting in the milk for a long time the little...things were still hard as rocks. I can only assume that some people even broke a tooth or two eating them.

Apple Jacks was my cereal of choice, and my younger brother's was Lucky Charms. When he'd get away with being a creep, I'd pour the whole box of Lucky Charms into a bowl, pick out all the marshmallows, and put back the oat pieces. The next bowl of cereal he'd pour would beget angry yelling, followed by tantrum crying, and I'd listen with triumphant satisfaction. Ah, passive-aggressive sibling rivalry...

My mother would pick all the marshmallows out of the lucky charms. We were feral and neglected children indeed.

Omg I remember doing this as a kid. Adding sugar to Cheerios was such a highlight to my childhood that I still do it today.

You sir are national treasure. I love the nostalgia mixed with the mid-atlantic voice. You are an anachronism to a difficult but fulfilling time. I wish my kids could understand the self reliance our generation was forced into. Looking back I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Our generation wanted recognition but never got it and we are better for not expecting anything else. It makes us appreciate whatever we get rather than expecting it.

Hilarious as always. However, Honey Nut Cheerios were introduced in 1979. I remember my father would pour a huge bowl of them at 10:00 every night so he could watch the local news and then a M.A.S.H rerun.

I might have been right on the cusp of the sugar cereal awakening. I remember eating Frosted Flakes, Cocoa Pebbles, and Honey Nut Cheerios when I was about 7. I was born in ‘77.

Frosted Flakes have been around forever. I vividly recall commercials for Honeycomb Cereal (big, big taste for a big, big, bite!). I forget when the Flintstone cereals came out.

Ah the cereal from the before the times! Cap'n Crunches Crunch Berries and Cap'n Crunches Peanut Butter Crunch were my favorites. But usually what we found was less than sugary. Special K or General Mills Corn Flakes. Some times Wheaties and one did not DARE to attempt to sneak a box of the forbidden sugary goodness into mothers shopping cart for it would be immediately returned to the shelf and if you even thought about throwing a tantrum, you would find yourself on the receiving end of a backhand that would have done Billie Jean King proud.

There were Honey Nut Cheerios when we were kids. Never had 'em in my house, but my buddy next door did. My Mom didn't allow sugar cereals until we were in Jr. High to e sure we'd eat the Wheaties, corn flakes, etc. When the sweet cereal was gone.

the sugar milk was the whole key LOL I saw my children have these cereals now with all marshmallows. I regaled them with quite the story about this.

I’m a boomer and I’d have to say they must have improved the Captain Crunch in your day for it to have been able to actually scratch the roof of your mouth. For us, it turned into a soggy, horrible mess about twelve seconds after the milk hit it. No need for a spoon; just drink the slush right out of the bowl or the use of a straw was optional! And Cheerios, trying to actually capture those rascals on your spoon was more challenging than playing Operation!

I remember when the Monster cereals first came out. Franken Berry, Boo Berry, Count Chocula. I love those 3 cereals. They don't take them anymore.

The full sized shredded wheat my mother would put one in my bowl then pour in boiling water. The wheat brick would soak for about a minute then my mother would drain the water from the bowl and place it in front of me. I would add sugar then pour in the milk and begin to eat the delightfully softened sugary wheat.

I can recall only a few times where I had cereals like Fruit Loops or some such. It was usually what Dad wanted so it was wheat, corn, or rice Chex. I was also a fan of Kixs but again a rarity in my household.

I loved Cheerios. Shredded wheat, and Raisin Bran. Frosted Flakes, Honey Smacks, and Kik's. I still chow on those in my adult life.

Oh I remember those wheat bricks remind me of eating straw. Remember those two cereals you mentioned plus fruity pebbles and honey comb cereal. Plus corn pops and cookie crisp cereals. Along with fruit loops and apple jacks but my favorite cereal was franken berry and boo berry which you can only get at Halloween now.

If you wished to turn your cereal bowl into a bowl of wet cement, nothing could beat Grape Nuts. A shotglass worth would keep you filled until dinnertime...if you ate dinner late.

Yep, grew up on Alpha Bits, educational cereal, great way to practice for the grade 4 spelling bee! Grade 5 was kind of a bummer though when we switched to cursive, kind a took the fun out of breakfast. BTW Honey Combs was for holidays and special events only, because it had real honey in it. Don't remember ever eating real honey in those days, but there was ALWAYS a can of BeeHive corn syrup in the cupboard. Ah, the good old days!

Captain Crunch... used to ensure a bloodletting before heading off to school. It's how we prepared ourselves for braces.

Honey nut Cheerios was introduced in 1979 so almost all GEN Xers add honey nut Cheerios available to them before they hit 14 and about half of them didn’t know a time before Honey Nut Cheerios.

I still eat cereal to this day. I still eat peanut butter and jelly sandwich to this day. I love Cheerios. I love Corn Flakes. I love Kixs. I love lucky charms. They will always be a staple
