I have a theory. There is one thing that connects both of the times he learns an Arcanum. Before he learned the Sky and ocean Arcanums, he performed dark magic. He needs to do something like that in order to unlock the Arcanum basically

Could be a red herring, cos both times he performed dark magic it was also during times of stress. The first time he was mentally stressed because he felt he couldn't do anything, with Rayla and the dragon both being in danger when he arrived. The second time they had been been captured and Callum was being tortured. He unlocked it after witnessing his friends in danger, and Rayla once again, which could be the key to unlocking the arcanum rather than it being dark magic. Same as how he got his wings in the final of 3 was due to love and his life being in danger rather than it having anything to do with dark magic. I just don't think the writers would want it to be him using dark magic be the key to unlocking the arcanums since that sends a different message to it being something like Love being the reason he unlocks them. Just my opinion tho so could be completely wrong.

I mean it would make sense, cuz what *is* dark magic in reality, from what’s been shown, it’s magical energy that comes from other magical creatures, absorbed by the user into their body (hence the corrupted state) and then released in a different state that relates to it’s original state, like the worn thing turning chains into snakes, the pentapuss making a transformation and most interesting of them all the dragon horn used to freeze that magma river into a bridge, that last one is interesting cuz it shows us that a magical creature doesn’t need to die in order to use dark magic.

They forgot the heckin’ Key of Aaravos. Maybe in the next season they’ll explain a good reason for why they forgot it, but why wouldn’t they bring an object that’s literally called the Key of Aaravos to Aaravos’s prison? And bruh doesn’t even need to be in a prison, he can literally just show up in spirit form and by manipulating and “borrowing people’s consciousness” he could just take over the world without his full powers. But like why did they completely forget about the Key of Aaravos?

Noticed this is similar to how Aang learned his elements, Air was first, then water. If the pattern holds true next would be earth, then sun ( fire). Not sure where moon, and star come into play though.

It may be cool that Callum can do Primal Magic and it really is. At the same time, he's one human out of like over a billion people (I'm just guessing the current population of humans in Xadia). How many other humans has Callum tutored and how many of them have connected to an Arcanum? Nobody else outside of his circle of friends seems to make a big deal about him doing Primal Magic and it's just him who can do this magic

Arcanum is latin for mystery. It comes from the phrasing arcanum arcanorum, meaning mystery of mysteries. One of these mysteries is the Royal Art, which is magi. It has ties to....well...ill let you figure that out for yourself.

Hey sorvus what arcanum do you think Callum will learn next and if you think about it when Callum learned an arcanum he did the dark magic spell that turned chains to snakes so maybe he had to do that spell to learn an arcanum and I think he may learn the moon arcanum because he has done a moon spell once so the arcanum is kinda already in him and he may try to learn it to help Rayla out when they go to free her parents and Runnan what do you think.

The arcanums are sort of like a little life lesson. I hope he learns all of them so then we can learn them all. The moon is that things aren’t always what they seem, I forgot the sky one, and the water is that you don’t control anything, you go with the flow, which, as a SeaWing and Pisces, I live by.

For that one spell he used Rayla's Moon Opal, I think. Before he unlocked the Sky Arcanum, he used a primal stone to do sky magic. There are also smaller sources for one-time uses, like Moon Opals.
