I remembered when I was a kid I always wondered why he was the only black guy playing golf on TV. This is a great interview, what a great champion & person.

When he was 11 he fell out tree and broke his left elbow in 3 places. Never able to keep one of his levers (arm) straight more than 30 degrees. He preferred football and basketball. Never thought about golf because it wasn't much of a mans sport to him. Till one day his friends tricked him into playing and he discovered the challenge. Amazing story. True Legend. Nice Interview.

I watched him at the JC Penny at Bardmoor in largo FL... He was amazing to watch. I was immediately captivated by his striking the ball.

I would watch him when I was a kid in the eighties. My dad was an avid golfer so we would watch the tournament's back then. I was to young to realise that he was playing a sport when there was no other African Americans really playing that sport let alone to be a professional. By the way I'm African American. RIP Calvin Pete.

One weird hitch in his giddy up, but always found the short grass.

I miss the days when short hitters could still win with a well rounded game. It's turned into a long driving competition.

Agree with you there for sure! Good thing we can play it forward and still give a par-5 a go in two a couple of times a round! Power and finesse have always been a part of the game... are still are! Merry Christmas!
