Calvin didn't 'warn' him, he threatened him. Reformers tried to reform the Catholic Church, because they couldn't tell the difference between the true Gospel and the evil Catholic church. Many of the apostles were married and had children but they left there families to spread the gospel. Many holy men and women left their families and spouses to become monks, hermits etc

I don't know the details, but it is very likely that there was financial means to care for the family, and extended family members to help guide the children in their growing up years. In those days, extended family was much stronger and more abundant than now, and they did look after each other.
