John Calvin, Ulrich Zwingli, and Brother Klaus (Niklaus von Flüe) were three very different men who shaped the Christian faith in Switzerland. John Calvin was as an intellectual giant of the Reformation, Ulrich Zwingli was a humble priest who brought reform to the church and died in battle, and Brother Klaus was a mystic who left everything to seek God in the wilderness. With this docu-drama, award-winning filmmaker Rainer Wälde celebrates the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation and the 600th anniversary of the birth of Brother Klaus, Switzerland’s most famous saint. In comparing and contrasting these three figures, we see how the practice of the faith changed in Switzerland in the late Middle Ages. These changes would ultimately impact the entire world.

@@Unknown86483 That's not actually true. John Calvin warned Servetus, several times, not to come to Geneva because Servetus *was* a heretic, and the Genevans would have killed him. Calvin didn't 'warn' him, he threatened him. Reformers tried to reform the Catholic Church, because they couldn't tell the difference between the true Gospel and the evil Catholic church. The Lord told Peter that the gates of Hell will not prevail against his Church (the true church). Therefore, no one is certain as to why Luther and all the following reformers thought they were saving the 'church' that The Lord Jesus said would stand until His return? The only thing the Reformation did was make the Word of God more accessible to the masses, it did not 'save the 'the Gospel' as though the Gospel needed saving. Now reformers preach heresy and a deluded man made theology created by men. Jesus told us He would send a Helper (John 16) who would LEAD US INTO ALL TRUTH! The Helper was not a man, a reformer, a charismatic preacher, a miracle worker, a great Evangelist, etc etc! He was God through His Holy Spirit.

As far as brother Klaus goes, for some spiritual, not practical reason I perceive that it would had been better for God’s kingdom to stay with his family and educate his children as disciples of Christ, since Jesus commanded us to go and make disciples, not to isolate ourselves from others who need us, if God wanted him for himself he would have called him single, not after having 10 children and a wife, sometimes I think there is a kind of mysticism that’s dangerous, he could have gone 40 days in isolation to seek God but not for the rest of his life. The presence of the father in a big family is a must

So you believe some are predestined to Heaven and the rest to hell without free will? We have free will and the choice to make. Calvin's TULIP is heresy when the Lord straight up said that He would have all men to be saved and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. Just something to consider. This is your Piper and Macarthur teachings. Works salvation. Might as well be Catholic with that thought process...

“ for all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth “I believe that was Paul writing to Timothy, a few things also to consider, and that is the question, is man’s free will rule supreme over Gods will? If Paul’s writing is to means what you are alluding to then God is subject to man’s free will, or “choice”to believe or reject, because scripture is clear some go to hell therefore not all ( everyone who ever lived) comes to believe or is to be saved. Furthermore Paul was talking to believers in that letter meaning all the believers, then and in the future will be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. I’ll put it in layman’s terms, or give an analogy if you will, if I buy “all” the paper cups does mean I have bought all the paper products?

Jesus himself settles the dispute: In John 6:54 & 63 He clearly states, "Whoso eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood hath eternal life...it is the Spirit that quickeneth, the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life." And again in 1 Corinthians 11:23 & 24 He says after breaking the bread, "Take, eat, this is my body which is broken for you: this do IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME." So we see it is symbolic only.

Don’t let it trouble you-although if you can gain your freedom, do so. 22 For the one who was a slave when called to faith in the Lord is the Lord’s freed person; similarly, the one who was free when called is Christ’s slave. 23 You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of human beings. 24 Brothers and sisters, each person, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation they were in when God called them.

Remember that Precious Bible your Sola Scripture is based on IS Tradition. The early church for nearly 300 years had letters from Apostles. It wasn't until St Athanasius gathered the known letters he could, he sorted out the questionable ones, Revelation bearly made it in and in The Orthodox Church its not read in a public service. I have much consternation about Luther‘s concept of limited atonement and how he ostensibly defined elect & unelect (I had learned a different interpretation based upon a sentence diagram in Hebrew that I need to learn to see if I can support it or not) but otherwise he is a person of the faith that seems quite trustworthy. My own belief is that the German word should never have been adopted for scripture translations to English. God is about personal faith first (not corporate). The Jews got it wrong when they refused God on Mt. Sinai and then again when they asked for a king. We need to organize first ad families and then as a local fellowship. We can meet in larger assembly when deemed necessary but maintaining the larger organizations leads to corruption and must stop.

Zwingli and Calvin were great Reformers, so it's odd to include Nicholas of Flüe in this documentary. There's nothing admirable about abandoning your family, and there's certainly no biblical basis for a wife "releasing" her husband. It's all pathetic.
