thanks for getting back, that's good to hear, the motor is suppose to only have about 35k on the rebuild, (you know how that goes) but yes your right , go ahead and change the oil pump, i should have did a video on this truck, its super straight extended cab, never wrecked or abused (needs paint ) , with perfect interior (except dash pad) , the motor is sounding and looking good, i removed all the smog crap, and getting close to having it crusing, thanks againg for the help.

I’ve got a 1995 4.9l & I too just replaced the rockers, fulcrums, cam & pushrods with factory ones. The book calls for 17 to 23 foot pounds. My question is can I just torque them all in at 23 foot pounds regardless of where the camshaft lobe is? I have the Bolt In Style, not the nut style.
@oldreliable3035 жыл бұрын
Yes you could, but it would be best if you tightin them at the bottem of the cam lobe. Less risk of hurting your cam, or a bolt not get torqued all the way. So, torque all of them to 17 foot lbs at the bottem of the lobe, then spin the engine over a few times and then torque them to 23 foot lbs at the bottem of the lobe.

I just did 252 swap on my 4.9, and I can't tell a difference

matthew dyess is yours a stock efi truck?
@Nobodyofimportance2u6 жыл бұрын
No, it is a 4 barrel swapped 1981
@oldreliable3036 жыл бұрын
matthew dyess thats odd, i feel like mine has more low end with this cam. maby the way your engine was built is not needing more cam? and a 81 came with a much low compresson than i have with mine. so my guess is your cam is not holding you back but your head, or compresson is.

is the mounting pad still on the side of the block for the fuel pump and are they drilled out?

I got a 89 f150 with the 300. Got some valve train noise even after running some sea foam. 160k on it. 125psi in each cylinder on comp test. Wondering if I put new lifters in at that mileage if I should replace the cam as well ?
@oldreliable3035 ай бұрын
I would do notting, ive replaced lifters and the new ones ticked just the same.
@StudioELW4055 ай бұрын
I’ve read 125psi on compression is low. What are your thoughts on that ?
@oldreliable3035 ай бұрын
@@StudioELW405 125 it is getting worn, new was 150ish but it is fine, if it gets below 80 then rebuild it. It will run down to 30 with no power at that point but it will run.

Look here I had the same problem I’m currently in front of 96 f150 4.9 with the engine idling I change the oil and filter and add a bottle of MMO and a quart of transmission fluid that will in deed clean up the gunk free up lifters I went an extra an added motor medic valve medic oil detergent truck is idling and rev smoothly I’m just waiting another day of idling before I drain the oil and change filter so I can do an Italian tune up these 4.9 are awesome to work and runs forever once you take care of them
@StudioELW4055 ай бұрын
@@dawson7006 so you just let it idle for a bit say like 20 minutes or so for over 2 -3 days then dump and replace filter and oil again?

Hey thanks for the video, i messed up putting my cam gear back on and stripped the threads out of the ends of the camshaft. I also missed the timing mark by a couple teeth, so i need to redo it and probably replace camshaft if I can't tap it. Do I need to remove the valve cover like you did to replace the camshaft or can I just pull the old cam out and put a new one in without replacing lifters?
@oldreliable3032 жыл бұрын
Yes the lifters have to come out first.

I need info help ....got a 81 f150, without a motor, went with a 300 inline because that's what was in it, the motor I put in the truck has a oil pan with the sump is in front , and sitting on the cross member causing a vibration at idle. QUESTION IS, can I just change the oil pan and turn the pump backwards? or do I need to get different pump? was told the pan may be from a 60s truck with a straight axle, pretty sure the block is an 80s, because it has ac bolt holes and smog pump bolt holes as well. or can it be a pan from a 200? I would think not, the 200s look small., thanks for any help.
@oldreliable3036 жыл бұрын
CC it could be a 200 pan, and for the pump just get a new one there cheap. if it goes out in a year or too your wish you done it now. so just buy a pump and pan for a 81 f150 with the 300, it will bolt on
