With the 2zz out you might as well get the billet oil pump as it's another weak point, the OEM one is made of sintered alloy and basically explodes on a money shift or sustained high rpm's. A Moroso oil pan with scrapers and an extended oil pick up is also a must when tracking on sticky tyres and pulling over 1G. Do it once do it right 😁👍

You need to upgrade the oil pump. It's the main component that causes oil related engine failures on this engine. I believe there is an aftermarket performance oil pump made for the Lotus cars that have the same engine, it fixes the reliability problem. Edit: Check out this information. Hey guys, brand new to your channel. Your Black-Flagged at Blyton Park popped up in my feed and I just came from that. Liked and subbed. Can you explain why you need a baffled sump and how that would have prevented, you know, your engine from blowing up? I'm guessing that this is only needed if you're going to be driving on a track because, when in high speed corners, the oil would slosh to one side of a regular sump and not be able to flow through the engine. Is that correct? For non-hooligan road use, is a baffled sump necessary? I'm newly the owner of a 2001 Celica GTS (US Spec) with the 2ZZ engine. Long story short I suddenly needed a car last month when my wife needed my car for her own commute (switched to driving from train), and I lucked out as my Dad had been looking to sell his high miles GTS for months with no luck. I grew up driving manuals but haven't driven a manual for near on 15 years and now I have this lovely lovely sports car. The engine is an absolute riot and I'm pinching myself that I got this car for next to nothing. My dad's a mechanical genius - for example he rebuilt the transmission on it 2 years ago - and the car's in awesome shape, but she's got 275,000 miles on her, and I need to know what to watch out for so I get as much life out of this gem of a car as possible. I have no intention to track the car (famous last words)...

The main issue with the 2ZZ is the fact that has a habit of remaining in the head under high rpm conditions which is why some of you guys might have had problems even with a Moroso sump. Could be worth looking into having an external head oil drain fitted.

Wow, those cars handle pretty bad, corner entry oversteer followed by corner exit understeer ... nice driving, but horrible car setup/balance. Tires maybe bad, but that's not the problem, car balance is ... I know front wheel drive on some of those cars, but the Celica is rear ... still ... oiling isn't the problem, if that's the 2ZZ motor then valves and the roller rockers are very weak links (also need to drill out oil vain in the valve train) ... you just aren't pulling enough sustained G's for oiling problems at the sump level. But with that said, a higher capacity baffle oil pan is always a good thing provide the baffles are done correctly.

Celica rwd? When? A friend of mine melted his mr2 (2zz swap) with shitty 2004 tires. It is a common problem By the way hearing that those cars handle bad is the biggest bullshit I heard this year... @@CamberandCombustion Oh that's right, Celica is FWD ... sorry I'm used to having the 2ZZ classified as "mid engine" in my Lotus. I have A LOT of experience with the 2ZZ when racing my Lotus, it's a very fragile motor.
