We visited the S21 Prison and killing fields in Phnom Penh. These museums educate visitors about the tragedies that occurred during the Cambodian Genocide during the Khmer Rouge regime.

I was born during that hellish time. My dad often times retells the atrocities he saw, which is beyond sad. I can never set foot at this museum. I would just breakdown totally. I think everyone should learn about it so we won’t repeat it, EVER!

As someone who is morbidly obsessed with this topic, 🔥👍💪 Kudos. 👏 👏 A dire shame only Brother #2 and one other have faced trial and prison time King Siahnouck coined the phrase Khmer Rouge. They called themselves "Angkar" (the organization) Add in the irony of they initially opposed Siahnouck. But they later allied with one another

I’m not sure if you have ever seen the movie The Killing Fields, one of the most impressive movies out there. It won Oscars. I would recommend it. Great story. I’m not even sure if the Khmer Rouge are communists. They seem to me to be a cult which has misinterpreted certain ideology to suppress people with mob justice, much like the Talibans or the Boko Haram.

We will need to watch the movie. It is heartbreaking to learn about what the Khmer Rouge did. It’s hard to think of a reason why that would be okay to do.

Still don't know what motivated the Khmer Rouge regime to conduct such horrendous killings since it is not a topic that demands study. Exactly what is the ruling ideology of the Khmer Rouge regime and is it really about "Communism"? Just as ISIS in Syria and Iraq can be traced to the regime change of Saddam Hussein and Iraq invasion, one wonders if the colonial wars in this part of Asia and especially the brutal Vietnamese war were the roots of such hatred and atrocities.

Saloth Sar was beyond communism. His idol was Mao Zedong. And he wanted to purge academics from society Ironic, a good number of victims were Khmer Rouge loyalists
