Thats what colonizer always done, it is more than just collecting exotic artefact but also an effort to hide and blur their colonized area rich history and knowledge from their own people in order to suppress their identity durimg colonozation. A lot my country ancient books, notes and manuscript brought to dutch and just recently they giving it back some. We have become lost nation struggle to find our own identity after independence because of that.

@@safuwanfauzi5014I think around 13 centuries when Khmer empire fall, Thailand wanted to build a temple but a Buddhist temple but with design from Khmer temple and start building so that they can let the people from the future know the Temple. Not as impressed as Cambodia but they try there best I guess

@@safuwanfauzi5014my friend, as a fellow Khmer, your statement is rather one sided, even us modified our Indian brother culture to make it original for ourselves, like wise, the Thai did to our. If you look closely, none of their newly built architectural styles exactly resemble our. Additionally, instead of concentrating the hatred towards our neighbors, we must unite and improve our current style to match that of our ancestors.

@@YOU-GET-WHAT-YOU-HAVE it's true. But the different is that Cambodian are fully aware that we are related to Indian in so many ways and most thai can't seem to accept the fact that Khmer Empire existed way before them and as we've known true world history. But the thai have the audacity to said/commemt that we steal from them just about everything.

@@deletedaccount175Legend says Khmer people were created by a union between an Indian prince and a Naga Queen. The Indian Prince travelled through the area in search of trades or something and came across the Naga warriors. He noticed the Naga warriors were all females like “Wonder Women’s” tribe. He didn’t want to fight women and instead asked the Queen for marriage. This, birthed the Khmer people. So, true Khmer people are part Indian and Nagas. People, look at the words: "proof" and "evidence." If there is a crime, then find it and charge. Stop going in circling saying something happened if there is no proof. Find the proof and charge the crime. Remember, in order for something to be illegal, there must be a crime and a law broken. If there isn't a law broken, there isn't a crime. Find the broken law and charge the crime. The rest is just blowing hot air.

If there is a crime that occurred inside Cambodia, then go after them. It all depends on what the circumstances were when Cambodian residents brought the objects to any dealer. Or does Cambodia not want to go after their citizens? They just want to blame outsiders? They were having a Civil War!! Blame the problems on the country having the civil war. Maybe say "thank you" to the dealers who got the art out of the country before the country blew it all up, like they did their citizens. Maybe everyone should be thanking the dealers for helping all this artwork survive instead of blaming them. DUH!!!!!

If I paid millions for a historical object I wouldnt just "give it back" because someone tried to guilt trip me. Also having artifacts on display in famous museums probably garners more respect and appreciation for the object and the history behind it than having it sat in an old ruin. Half the time this sort of thing gets brought up its usually things that nobody cared about or even knew existed till somebody found it and put it in a museum.

These statues belong to Cambodia specifically. It's not relevant to call these statues Hindu or Buddhist because this is about Cambodia, not the larger Hindu and Buddhist cultures as a whole. This video isn't a history lesson about culture, it's solely about stolen Cambodian statues.

Cambodian is a heavily Buddhist country so idk why you threw that in there. But I mean over years of civilization Cambodian people split off from what the Indians originally brought us and we turned it into our own, it’s not like Cambodians looted it from India. Indians brought it here, and decided to stay and obviously the culture grew from that.

Does everything have to be about India? That passive-aggressive whining about India is all over KZfaq comments.

Things get lost over thousands of years. Governments collapse, things change, nature takes over. That doesn’t take anything away from their cultural value. Perhaps you can be proud of our own people’s culture and understand?

@J N well, if you just leave stuff in a ditch somewhere. someone is legally ok just taking it. If your culture valued it -That- much. Why did they just leave it all buried in the jungle to decay.

No doubt its a robberry but .. are these sculptures safe in one of the most corrupt country in S E Asia ? ask yourself the question...

It is. They’re stored in museums or returned to their original place. If the government is so corrupt as you say, then they must have a different way of earning money than selling statues 😂

As an indigenous person from Canada, I disagree with returning artifacts to their "homelands". Many of these countries are at war or on the brink of economic collapse. It is in the best interests of humanity to keep the history of our world protected within the museums of stable nations. So many cultural artifacts have been lost to war and crime in Syria, Afghanistan, Myanmar (Bruma), Sudan and the list goes on. Now in India, Buddhist and Islamic artifacts are at risk of being destroyed because of a growing far-right Hindu nationalism that is seeking to erase India's multicultural past. I remember seeing on the news that 3 massive Buddhist statues in Afghanistan were bombed and lost forever. Countries like Canada should have the responsibility to come in and take these artifacts. It is the only way to ensure they survive for future generations.

We can always find excuses for our acts; but it always come back to the fundamental question of what is your real intention when you did it? Can you honestly answer that to yourself?

Cambodia’s own national museum in Phnom Penh stores these artifacts safely. Cambodia today is stable. The artifacts that weren’t looted are sent to the museum for safe keeping to prevent looters from taking them. When the Khmer Rouge took Cambodia in 1975, they did not destroy the artifacts in the national museum, even though they were radical atheists and hostile to religion, especially Buddhism and Hinduism. The rise of another communist government in Cambodia or any government that is hostile to religion in Cambodia is extremely unlikely. Since Buddhism is the state religion, it’s protected by the Cambodian ministry of religion.

India is not a country which is destroying any cultural heritage of Buddhist or Islamic culture we are not doing any damage to their culture. Do you think if India is doing any harm to Buddhist culture Dalai Lama who is the most important person in Buddhism will live in India. It was the European powers in the past who have destroyed the culture of most of Asia and Africa.
