Following his transformative and popular online course ‘Black Lives Around the Messenger ﷺ’, in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd, Shaykh Adeyinka Mendes presents selected translations from Imam al-Suyuti’s book, ‘The Excellence of Black People’ (Raf'u Sha'n al-Hubshan). The book documents the intimate relationship that thousands of Black African Muslims and Black Arab Muslims had with the Prophet ﷺ, highlights the pivotal roles they played in the early Muslim community, as well as the inspiring lives of other Black Nobles before and after the Prophet's time ﷺ, and African words found in the Qur'an.
In this discussion, Shaykh Mendes also talks about the long tradition of Futuwwah Guilds in which activities like artisanhip, martial training, and spiritual education initiated boys into becoming men - a longstanding Rites of Passage that helped inform the virtues that define self-mastery, adulthood and maturity in Muslim Civilisation.

Subhanallah. This is a topic that touches me very profoundly. As a Turk I find it so alien that after Ataturks nationalist reforms people merged it with muslimness. I find that many Turks do not see the transformative and ontological relevance of the deen, but rather subsume it under their essentialy racist and belittling nationalism. My humble self was always stupefied of the universality and diversity of this religion. This is one of the reasons why I do not frequent official, state built mosques (governed by the Ministry of Religious Affairs) except rarely for they tend to attract these kind of "ethno-religious" folks. No wonder they find the banishment of Islam from the public sphere unproblematic with such views. The point of pertinence to the video is; once one truly realises the urgency and profundity of the prophetic message, and the all-enveloping reality of Al-Haqq SWT, one is but able to think of Him, and strive to purify the heart to come closer to him. In other words, it is not merely a luckily conformant leniency to the dismay of racism in the Western world today, rather it is an absolute absurdity in within Islam, contradicting its holy purposes of the manifestation and recognition of Unity. وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ شُعُوبًا وَقَبَائِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوا (we made you into peoples so you might know each other) clearly indicates that our recognition towards one another is one of the ways to know Him. Very grateful for this beautiful lecture barakallah feekum.

Assalamu alaykum, I know today is the last episode of 🍵 over 📚 series. In my opinion, this series should continue throughout the fall and winter as people spend more time indoors. The talks shared so far shed light on very important and timely issues the Muslim ummah and the world are facing today. It is our imperative to address those issues and build awareness. Baraka Allahu feekum.

A society that denies the fullness of drives divides its allegiances. Heredity and nationality are details to consider, but any system that is worth voluntarily accepting will go beyond that and produce examples than affect those of different groups with their principles. Material culture and psychology shouldn't be allowed to divide the people of mythology.

Perhaps those who identify as Muslims have become too busy with books within the tradition, at the behest of The Quran. Where are The Quran competitions that encourage researcher and thought into The Quran? Or is it that Muslims feel as though nothing else is discoverable from The Quran? Are Muslims comfortable with reading, researching and understanding The Quran for themselves, without an intermediary? It does not seem as though there is a comfortable platform for this, without the plethora of individual groups/sects hurling Rejector(كافر) accusations. Why? Because some trustees of The Quran don't believe tafaasir to be Revelation?

رفع شأن الحبشان In my opinion the further the skin of a nation from black the further the nation become from God and guidance, I think this is due to the fact that our father Adam and mother Hawaa were black and with every generation a little was lost the further you are from the blessed lands. If you want to hear the best Quran recitation it’s black people that recites it best listen to people of Senegal MashaAllah you feel perfection

Salam Ray. Interesting view you have, I would like to share mine if that is fine. I believe a nation furthers themselves from God, not because they are less 'black', but because they become less pious and become devious to Allah's commands. It becomes a norm to disobey and thus societies are less guided. From what I know, the work 'Adam' in Hebrew means 'tanned' or 'red', possibly alluding that Adam (as) was quite a dark, tanned, and red man. However, Allah knows best and forgive me for anything I have said wrong.

How do you reconcile this belief with the fact that Muhammad (saw) was the farthest away from Adam (as) of all the Prophets, yet is the best of creation by consensus of the Ummah?
@RayRa
@RayRa 2 жыл бұрын
@@jpaqon Allah said in the Quran describing him and his companions امة وسطاً You can’t place Mohamad in any group he is the exception of the exception in everything he is the beloved of Allah. I mentioned the relation of the blackness to the nearness to the most original state the human was created in the meaning of the word Adam in Arabic come from Odma which is darkness of skin, hence my deduction. You can clearly see today who is the furthest from guidance, just connect the dots. Also Mohamad and his nation and companions are included when I mentioned the blessed lands. Most Arabs are dark skinned and many are black.

He mentioned talking about England’s history of Islam also. All identities have a history of Islam and the Prophet (pbuh) praised many different nations. Every positive part of Muslim history should be celebrated wherever it occurred on the globe. He also mentioned South Asia and South East Asia. A book about Islam and Europe would also be great 🤗. This book is just a translation of Shaykh Al-Suyuti’s book, written centuries ago.
