This very process is domestication. Clearly she doesn't know anything about wolf dogs. I agree that for majority people they shouldn't have a wolf dog. It takes a lot of patience time and effort for a wolf dog. (matter of fact the same goes for any dog it's just amplified with a wolf dog because they require a lot more effort in training and require a lot more exercise.)

That is literally all dogs. All dogs have an instinct to dominate. My female Labrador mix is a dominant dog. She dominated both her brother and our 11 year old chow/lab mix before they both passed away from old age. She's the only one left and is still dominant by nature. They fought for dominance all the time, but never needed intervention from us because it never got violent, just cases of pinning to the ground and lots of vocalization. Wolfdogs are just more intense than dogs. They show more emotion in their body language and vocalizations than dogs, and if you can read into it, learn to "speak" their language, it's not so hard to socialize with them or get along with them like she likes to make them out to be. No they aren't for first-time owners, they do require research to some degree to own, but they are not "wild animals" that will rip out your throat at the slightest move. Like her video of being "attacked", she circled him, kicked the bucket next to him, after he growled at her, and pinned back his ears. She antagonized by walking behind him and throwing stones, to which he responded with standing up and holding his tail erect, which in wolf speak is "back off or you're not gonna like me" and when she kicked the bucket next to him he took it as a threat to his food and he "corrected" her. Which is a normal everyday thing wolves go through. Young pups and adolescents are corrected often when they're being taught manners, like not to take someone's things. That's what the loud vocal calls where during that whole "attack" She instigated every bit of it. You know why I know? Because I actually went to school for these things. I studied animal behavior, medicine, and biology for 6 1/2 years before I had to give it up for money reasons. And even I am nowhere near considered an "expert" with all the knowledge I've gathered. She is not an expert by any extension of the word, and should not own these animals if she does not know how to read their body language correctly.

I'm far from being as educated as you but my brother owns a wolf and just like my post says wolfs are one of the few wild animals that we can domesticate. All the dog breed the humans bred and bred came from the wolf. Sure it's not the same thing as owning a dog but how many times have people had positive interactions in the wild with a wolf versus a lion or cheetah or bear. Wayyyy back in the day there was one dog breed and it was the wolf we domesticated to help us hunt and protect us

Wolfdogs are more reliable than dogs and that's just a scientific fact, they're less trainable because they're smarter but it doesn't change the fact that wolves and wolfdogs are way less aggressive than dogs.

She understands what I want and expect from her and because I give her so much love and respect, she agrees to do it... mostly. Sometimes she’s in a mood and refuses to and for the most part, I don’t force anything on her. I don’t have to. If you have had wolves, or wolfdogs, you know what I mean. She’s my companion, not a pet. We also have 3 dogs in our pack. They are much different and since she’s the baby of the family, she will sometimes look to them to see what they are doing if she’s confused, which isn’t often. He only ever actually bit one person and that person said he deserved it because he didn’t follow my dad’s instructions. It was our gas meter reader. He knew Tundra and was super friendly with him. My dad had cleaned out one of the garages and had 2 piles of tools and whatnot. One of the piles was to keep and one was to give away. Dad had covered the keep pile with a tarp and told the gas guy to not touch it when he went to look through the tools to see if he wanted any of them. The day he came to do that, we weren’t home and dad had told Tundra to watch the keep pile. The gas man said he had gone through the give away pile and just wanted to peek at the other pile. Tundra had been accompanying him the whole time and getting pets, but as soon as the guy lifted the corner of the tarp, Thora grabbed his arm and dragged him away. The guy wasn’t hurt, or anything.... just terrified and a little amused. He said as soon as he told Tundra he wouldn’t go back over there, he turned him loose and asked for pets again. Dad loved that story and loved that dog. He passed away from old age right around the time my mom passed away, so dad told my sister and I that he was tired here and ready to go home and see his wife and his wolf. I’m sorry for the rambling, but as a wolf person, I feel like you would “get” it. Were you also raised with having them in your home? I swear I think it’s something in our DNA that makes us want to bond with wolves. It was always a little ironic and cool to me that our last name also happened to be Wolfe. I thought it was such a great and fitting name for us that I never even changed it after I got married. Lol!

You can tame a wild animal if you start it young enough and know what you're doing but it will still have all the instincts of a wild animal. It takes many generations of breeding to domesticate an animal, and at that point it won't be a wolf anymore, it'll be a dog.

if you really have a wolfdog you should know more than anyone that they are not like a normal dogs, and maybe your wolfdog is more dog than wolf, with those kind of animals you will never know wich part of them is more stronger if is the dog part then you would have an amazing pet, but if is the wolf part then when you realize that, you should take him to a sanctuary or release him in the wild. and not everyone can have one wolfdog you may agree that they require a lot of your time raising it, eat a lot more than the biggest dogs, needs more space to run and play, and you need to be more carefully with it to avoid injures when playing. and congrats to you for having succes with your wolfdog, you know some people just want them because the are something exotic and risky, but dont really comprehend what it really means have one.

Wolves are more to themselves and they more likely need time to be alone, traning a ”wolfdog” isnt easy and they get even more dangerous when you get closer with them. 2 animal parks that are in my country has put down their wolves because they tried to ”tame” it or whatever. And that just angers me for thinking that people thinks they can train a wolf, and the people that was with the wolves got attacked and died… like what did you expect.. they got too close and tried to socialize them but they did it the wrong way.. never try to ”tame” a wolf. Wolf's are not pets ? Mine had no problem eating dog food and she let me pet her . She had no problems with me given her a bath or walking her on a leash either. She killed some of the naighboorhood cats in the backyard there was allot of dead squirrels and birds as well. We had to carry them off in Black trash bags every now and then you would find small bones in the backyard.

Bingo. Proud owner of a wolfdog, I recieved her from a breeder here in my state, and was explicitly warned that if I did not assert myself as the "alpha" in that relationship she would not obey. That seems to be exactly what is going on here. She doesnt assert herself as the alpha, so the dog won't obey. Luna, my wolfdog, has never been trained beyond basic obedience training, but obeys every command I give her instantly. She isnt aggressive towards me, my family, or anyone who isnt threatening towards us or her, and generally plays well with other dogs. Up till about a year ago (she is 3 and a half now) she even tried to emulate my roomie's corgi and try to jump up on my lap. Now she mostly sits or lays near me, and tends to follow me anywhere I go, as long as I dont tell her no

Yes dogs can be dangerous if a human is not responsible with them. The difference is, dogs institutionally want to be with people. They Institutionally want to please people (and yes I know that there are exceptions to that) wolves do not have any inclination to listen to people, cuddle up with them or chill on the couch with them and watch tv or whatever. They're wild animals who want little to do with humans. To cross these two species often creates a very conflicted animal.

Wolf dogs possess conflicting instincts. Dogs institutionally want to trust us. Wolves institutionally trust other wolves and avoid humans. Yes, there are exceptions to that rule. A hybrid might have stronger dog instincts which allows them to be happy and content with people but you never know which trait the animal will inherit more of and for the animals who turn out with more wolf than dog mentality, they are often very stressed out. With that kind of uncertainty it is unfair to the animals who are a little more wolfish in demeanor because they will never be able to completely belong in one world or the other. They will have to hope that their care givers know enough about them to meet their needs. Not all people do and those animals wind up in shelters or hopefully a sanctuary of some sort where they will be respected for what they are. I love the idea of wolf-dog hybrids but i know that in reality it is better for all of them if wolves and dogs are respected for what they are and remain separate from one another because while there are some content and mild manner examples of a wolf dog, there are many who are not so lucky.

You're right it is limited and I am not ashamed to admit that and somebody who has experience with wolf dogs and knows what to expect from them maybe able to get different behavior and have a different relationship with them and that makes sense to me. But there are so many people who adopt wolf dogs thinking that they're just like keeping a pet dog and they are not dogs and due to people's lack of knowledge, research or false expectations many wolf dogs get left at pounds or shelters because they have been mislabeled as aggressive and that label gets them destroyed and all I am trying to point out is that people need to respect these animals for what they are , a combo of wild and domestic instincts. I also don't believe that people should intentionally cross breed domestic animals with wild animals. It leads to problems for the AVERAGE pet owner (meaning people who've previously, only owned dogs) as well as the animal because the owner has a lack of understanding. Do you work with wolf dogs regularly? I am genuinely curious I want to know. I am in no way trying to discredit you or create conflict. Do you keep them as pets or do you work at a rescue of some sort? I really am interested in answers to these questions. If you would prefer to dismiss me that's okay with me too.
