Always fun watching these videos. There's a real buried treasure aspect to them. There's also a "box of chocolates" thing because you never know what you're gonna get. Some nice cameras in this bunch. Glad you reached your value goal.

The Sony A6500 looks like a nice camera. With the lens should get some nice photos. I like the flash on that one.

Tiny camera, you say? Pentax Optio S4, fits comfortably inside an Altoids tin. All metal construction and even has a tiny optical viewfinder. Lovely little camera!

Great video as always. Love the look of the old "metal box" canon SDs and that SD300 with its machined ring is really quite a nice aesthetic look. Shame that they moved onto those glossy scratch-magnet rings in later models.. Have you ever commented on the shooting experience with those tiny optical viewfinders on these older canon digicams? So cute and having the option seems nice, but they also seem painfully small :)
@pricklypearcamera
@pricklypearcamera 3 ай бұрын
Thanks!! They are very small, but still better in bright sunlight than using the LCD. They are also a bit tricky to use if you are using the zoom as the optical range is different than the viewfinder display, so it won't 1:1 matchup.

Another great show. Too bad there were a few duds. That Sony a6500 is a great camera, and no one should dump on it. It seems to be the one that took the best pictures of the bunch with its 24mp sensor. What makes this so good is that every Sony E-Mount lens, native or 3rd party, can be used on this body. I shot thousands of pictures with this camera and it did not disappoint. Don't let others negative comments detour you from this camera. It's all opinion and maybe a dig because they are a fanboy of another brand. BTW, sure seems there was a huge building in China that cranked out all those bridge cameras. Despite the brand name, they all have very common parts, like the 18-55 zoom lens. Ummm. I've always wondered if a company made all the Canon, Nikon, Lumix, Sony, etc. bridge cameras. Just my thinking out loud. I can't believe how these bridge cameras sell for less than $200. That makes then great for our kids or beginners. Also like that you go outside in the beautiful Arizona desert for pictures.

I have a Canon PowerShot SD10 which is my tiny camera. It's the same (or similar) width as a lot of Digital ELPH cameras, but much shorter and thinner. Think of it as a metal stick of butter. Has excellent vivid colors and very good macro capabilities. Nice sharp prime lens too. Some purple fringing present but not too shabby for such a tiny lens. I also have a Pentax Optio S7 which is also a very small camera. Pictures aren't particularly great but video is hilariously bad (in a good way), even relative to other mid-00's P&S cameras that could shoot VGA video. It just has a soothing quality to it (especially with tranquil big-band music) that can't be replicated with any other camera that I know of. It's the only reason I've bothered to keep it. As far as similarly small cameras go, I also have a Sony DSC-T1 (in working order) as well as the T100, both of which take surprisingly good video. The T1 has surprisingly good audio quality (as well as autofocus and macro capabilities while recording video), while the T100 has optical IS and allows you to optically zoom while recording video - both uncommon video features for point & shoots back in 2007.

Nice! I haven't used the T series much for video, I will have to give it a try! Cool to hear on your other compact digital cameras too, I love using what's consider "retro" 15-20+ year old cams.

On cameras that you say have no value, do you tear them apart and scrap them for parts? Do you get rid of them on eBay as parts only? Do you have a closet full of broken cameras? Do you trash them? Haha some of the ones with cracked screens would be a cool digital “disposable” film like camera like the camp snap for example. Look forward and Love your videos, I feel like I’m in class when I watch them. The addition of photo samples is great!

Thank you! Really appreciate it. For broken cameras, I am able to later on get a very small % working, and the rest I generally lot into a group of broken cameras and sell on eBay. If it truly is a lost cause (missing tons of screws, corrosion off the charts, etc.) sometimes I toss those, but I try to "recycle" as much as I can.

1. I love these videos. It's a nice little class on multiple little cams. So valuable. 2. I ask before about a telephoto lense for photography for a canon rebel t5. I have the 55 -250. I want just a little more reach. Can you advise me on another lense sub 1000.00. 500.00 is more my range. It's confusing for me. And if so do you have any in ypur shop? Thank you!!!!
@pricklypearcamera
@pricklypearcamera 3 ай бұрын
1.) Thank you! That means a lot- It takes me quite a while to film these and take pics with all the cameras. 2.) So given your budget, you have some really solid options I think. On the higher end of that range, around $700USD used, you could take a look at the at the Sigma 150-600mm for Canon EF. That lens gives absolutely massive range on the T5. Closer to $500, you could check out the Sigma 100-400mm for Canon EF, that's normally in the $400-500 range depending upon condition. I don't currently have either of these, but I see some other reputable sellers offering them on eBay. Just check feedback %, and overall # of feedback.

Hello. I"m really enjoying your content. Do you have any recommendations for a lower price (or not too crazy price) interchangeable lens camera that is good for video and has IBIS? I have some action cams and a Sony ZV1 mark II, but I want to start testing out and learning about interchangeable lens cameras. I'd use it for vlogging and talking head videos. Something that works well in low light would be great. Thank you.
@pricklypearcamera
@pricklypearcamera 3 ай бұрын
Thanks, appreciate it! For an interchangeable lens camera with IBIS and good video capability, unsure of your budget, but I really like the Panasonic G9, IBIS, good low light capability and super fast autofocus. I think the body alone is in the $550-650 range depending upon condition, and there are many m4/3 lenses that would fit your need for vlogging/talking head videos. A little more reasonable option that sacrifices some low light performance but still has ibis and I use for video myself in youtube videos is the Panasonic GX85/G850. Hope that helps.

@@pricklypearcamera Thanks for your response. $550-650 for the body is totally doable. I'll start looking into the G9. I live in Vietnam. Used cameras are easy to get here and I've seen some deals online for used stuff.

Just to clarify, the pixelated viewfinder on the A7m3 has no correlation with the resolution of the main sensor. It is 100% due to the fact it has a low resolution LCD in the viewfinder. Whether it's a 12-megapixel main sensor or a 60 megapixel makes no difference. If the LCD for the viewfinder is low resolution, you are sticking your eyeball up close to it, so it will look pixelated.

Sorry to hear that! once a flash is dead, it's pretty cost prohibitive to replace. There are some youtube videos on it, but it's quite a bit above my knowledge or comfort level. It may be best to find a similar replacement on eBay that's working, you can find good deals on the A302 pretty often.

How much would a Canon 60d body with a Canon battery and charger go for. 4k shutter count.
@pricklypearcamera
@pricklypearcamera 3 ай бұрын
That's a pretty low shutter, which raises the price of your 60d. In the US, you'd be looking at a value estimate of $200-225.

Is shutter count considered for non DSLR cameras? A mirrorless camera will not have a mirror to flip back and forth, but doesn''t it still have a shutter mechanism and does that mechanism age? Just curious....
@Aniketshyam
@Aniketshyam 3 ай бұрын
anything mechanical ages... EFI is very less mechanical to Carburettors but the only mechanical part injectors do fail.. electronic shutters donot fail..but you never own anything with electronic shutter long enough fir it to fail.. it ends up in a e waste facility long before that
@pricklypearcamera
@pricklypearcamera 3 ай бұрын
I consider it more of a bellwether of use, and as Sony doesn't do "power on" cycle count like Panasonic does, it's a bit tricky to figure out how much use a Sony has had if it was primarily used for video, but a shutter count at least provides a ballpark normally of overall use.

20-70mm is decent but not fantastic. The a6400 I had was nice, but I wanted to full frame. So the a7II I Canon 1D mk.4 had to go because of the abysmal battery life on the Sony, and my 1DX covered the Canon side perfectly, compared to my now a7iii now at times 2 is A and B camera. Bought used. I use these for my house of worship event photography, adapted to Canon EF glass if I am not running my Tamron 35mm F2.8. I use the L lens Canon 70-200mm F4 constant aperture for Sonys and Canon 1DX I have too. MC11 Sigma adapter for the EF to E lens mount. My latest used to play around is the Nikon D700 with the MB-D10 battery grip and end caps to run the D3 series batteries too. Love that camera, but boy the Sony spoils me. Canon is next in the fast factor holy cow I'll get it, I work more for the D700 but that is part of the charm. So much fun buying used.
