Wow … loved it. I think pilgram-ing thru the countryside and then dipping into a little village is the best of both worlds. I love it. Seeing the little communities is far better than the grand touristy cities.

Great stuff Jay, It’s been a pleasure to bump into you on the trail. I think the community on the journey is what makes it a Pilgrimage rather than a hike. Buen Camino to both you and Tina , hope to see you in the road. Joe from England

Thank you Jay and Tina. My partner and i are planning to do this walk next year and i have been watching some videos of people such as yourselves doing the Camino . Your video stands out as being informative and detailed as well as showing real life of those participating , some nice gritty stuff that everyone else seems to gloss over . Ill watch part 2 tomorrow :-)

Oh Jay, you captured so much! It made me teary eye remembering my walk. You had a great shot of the hostal burguete, where Ernest Hemingway stayed for long periods of time! if you have the time, you would love Muxia, a days walk from finisterre. That is really the end, after that, you would have to swim 😂. Thanks for sharing your Camino. Buen camino peregrinos! 🥾🥾

So far we are still planning on going to Muxia. It's been a great experience so far. I just hope I can continue to capture those special moments along the path. I hope the videos do your memory justice.

As to the "You are about to die" guy. I walked my second Camino with a bloke who went late on the steeper route the year before, slipped, broke his leg and had to lay at the foot of the slope till the first pilgrims the day after. I have done both variants, and to be frank I do recommend the less steep version. Its more than 800m additional I believe, but it definitely is the safer way to go. To be fair the steep is only bad during the initial descent for like 1km (maybe less if I recall correctly). So its not a matter of life or death, but it is an added risk.

Great intro to the series. It looks like you're in a hiking bubble. A lot of other hikers. Most of the trail so far appears to be an easy hike (in comparison to most of your hikes). With so many towns to walk through, how much food do you need to carry?
@3oaksway11 ай бұрын
Sorry, pilgrams, not hikers.😊
@JayWandersOut11 ай бұрын
Good catch! 😀 We carry 1 loaf of bread over 2 days sometimes, at least a bar or 2 of some type to snack while walking, and a bag of chips all the time. We also have several tubes of electrolytes since they're hard to come by. You don't need much food, just snacks and food for lunch but there are also cafes all along the way so you can buy food. The food is pretty cheap as well surprisingly. We like to carry bread so we can take a break anywhere we want but stopping at cafes is often nice to meet up with other pilgrims.

Hi Jay, can you confirm this for me? I am going via Orisson to Roncesvalles. Does the tar road continue all the way to Roncesvalles or is the only route over the mountain on the dirt path. I keep reading that if the weather is rainy to take the road. Confused if they mean the road via Valcarlos. Thank you j
@JayWandersOut5 ай бұрын
At 43.026649, -1.295389 the Camino diverges from the road but many people take the road since it's supposedly easier. Honestly the trail isn't hard at all if you've ever done any actual trail hiking and you don't have physical ailments that could make it difficult. Either way they get you to Roncesvalles. Have a great time!

Can u get away with cowboy camping?
@JayWandersOut9 ай бұрын
It's illegal to camp almost everywhere but if you're willing to take the risk and abuse your privileges as a visitor to the country you may get away with it. One person we talked to was complaining about kids playing at a park until 11pm keeping them awake but they saw nothing ironic in their complaint in that they were breaking the law and the kids were just playing in a park.
