Military personnel who were stationed at U.S. Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune from the mid-1970s to mid-1980s had at least a 20% higher risk for several cancers than those stationed elsewhere, according to a new government study.

Our Military Commanders had done this. They routinely had their waste products buried in remote areas of the federal land. They also failed to take any actions to clean up underground contamination caused by deteriorating fuel storage facilities. When I was patrolling Fort Drum, NY, in the 90s, I came across a large open pit in a secluded wooded area. The engineers had dug down to the ground water. So it was like a small pond where all the water was bright orange and wreaked like fuel. Not far from that, there were some training areas where a brook ran through. Soldiers who had been near the brook said that it has lots of foam and rusted barrels stuck out of the ground. Apparently they had been buried there ages ago with who know what inside them - now rusted open and venting whatever contents they may have had.

My son was born there too. We were there for year and 3 months. He was born with extra thumb. I have thyroid cancer, ovarian cancer, infertility, mini stroke, aneurism, renal cyst, and hypertension. Filed claim but nothing in 2 years. They drag it out until you die. So sad.

@@connielaisle692 sounds a lot like the VA. I’m sorry for your family’s struggle and sacrifice. Hopefully someday things will be made right.

Had cancer 2x from that mess. Took genetic tests and didn't have the genes for either cancer. 1st cancer was 2009, 2nd cancer was 2017. I was fortunate enough to have detected them early. So now, if I think something is wrong, I go straight to the VA. I hit the emergency room a few times as well.

Was there for 4 years. 1977-1981. Loss right kidney to cancer, filed a claim 2 years ago..nothing yet. I also have developed low blood platelets (blood disorder) enlarged prostate, PSTD. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING NOT TO DEAL WITH SERIOUSLY. Because the list of disabilities and cancers coming from this is REAL!! SEMPER FI

My husband was there in May of 1988 just turned 19. He now has Primary Myelofibrosis which is a Rare Blood Cancer or Chronic form of Leukemia. Which can progress to full blown Leukemia. They are still covering up!! There is no way it's was cleaned up on Dec. 30 1987. They have a Vapor Intrusion Study coming out in Aug. of 2024. Bet it will be after the law suite cut off date. All he needs is to be rated, he's having problems working to keep a roof over our heads. So sorry for everyone's pain. And the cover ups need to stop with them!!
