The story kinda reminded me of Stephen King's It - where a whole town is under the sway of an evil force without really knowing it.

I hadn't thought about it like that before. That's certainly the feel I'd go for if I were running the sandbox as a larger campaign.

I watched because I love D&D/Pathfinder and besides Critical Role on Geek and Sundry, this is the only "watchable" play through video series. We need more of these.

I always worry that my sessions are somehow "wrong" because of how casual they are compared to what you see get recorded, even though there's technically no issue really. I'm glad someone who's recorded their session is willing to admit it. I feel better about it now.

As a new DM and new to D&D overall this was a great series to see how to deal with the advanced actions and buffs that players get and how the DM had additional tools/tricks to challenge the group. On a rainy night during the pandemic this was terrific

I absolutely loved watching this campaign and I encourage you to film more of them! So much so that I took the plunge and bought all of the books and am currently organizing a campaign of my own. So thank you for the inspiration =)

Very well done, just finished watching the whole game play out. Despite the bothers of being on camera and having to preform for the camera you guys did a wonderful job and put out some very entertaining and educating content. Thank you.

I listened to this campaign as a new player to DnD as a whole, albeit one who's soul had already been sold and recovered from WoW. From a new player perspective this was amazing to be able to watch as a sort of practice run through. I even remember at 1 point thinking that fairie fire would be super useful only to hear it brought up later on. As a sort of primer to playing this was a great tool. In terms of per enjoyment I can only ask for more. I mostly listened as I was driving to and from school and work as I have about a 40min drive to both. Really hoping the finale to this is out there somewhere as I'd love to know the ending.

I just finished watching, and what intrigued me the most was the fact on how mechanically focused and streamlined you were. A lot of dialogue was said in third person and with generalizations instead of directly talking to the NPCs, and it was oddly refreshing. You simply conveyed what the gist of your conversation was, without having trouble with a shy player, or a player not asking the right question etc. It honestly made me enjoy watching you more than in larger chunks than I can bare watching a "better" show like Critical Role, which I can only stomach half an hour at a time of. It was also interesting to see you directly give out DCs for checks. This has never occurred to me, and I'm still unsure if I should try it or not. Any thoughts on why you do this? Is it in a video you've already covered perhaps?

I'm a fairly avid player and for the most part understand how the rules work. I simply do get the chance to play any more so watching some competent people play is (for me) a lot of fun. Of course I'd rather be one of the people tossing the die around but hey, this is a good next best thing. You did kinda close that off with a gnarly cliff hanger and i would really like to see it played out to completion. Otherwise great job. I'm hoping for more life plays in the future if nothing else. Props, keep doing what you do.

I really enjoyed Razel-Sinn. Great stuff. Small request - I would love to see or read your guys' thoughts on Out of the Abyss (similar to how you customized Rise of Tiamat). You did a short vid on OotA prior to its release (in which you covered Demons too I think) but nothing in depth since its release. I am pretty curious as to how you guys would handle all the stuff that campaign throws at folks: tons of NPCs/quasi-sandbox/madness/scarcity/darkness/tons of random tables/etc.

We'll definitely be covering OotA soon. We're about three sessions in (just wrapped up Sloobludop) and having a good time, but the campaign hasn't quite hit that moment where it takes off and player-driven actions replace DM-driven actions as the momentum for the game. It'll happen soon, maybe when they reach Gracklestugh and can catch their breath. By way of preview, the PCs are - Drow Mystic/Immortal, Duergar Tomelock/Fiend, Orc Assassin/Veng. Paladin, and human Wiz/Necro. All NPCs are either dead or recaptured.

I now want a changeling rogue character who was one of those twelve girls. Created as a plot by a hag to create a new coven. The whole thing was stopped(?) after the third girl was lost, and #5 got chased out of town. Had to survive as an urchin on the streets of an unfamiliar city while coming to grips with the fact that she isn't what she thought she was for the first thirteen years of her life. I'm just assuming she'd be a changeling. Not sure how that'd work. Constantly radiates nectomantic energy. Maybe a hag magnet of some sort.

I know I'm a little late to the party, power watched the campaign, but I had two questions. first, when will this campaign, if it is going to, continue? Second, I don't have any friends who would want to play D&D with me, I already asked. what should I do? Also, awesome content on the channel, looking forward to more.

What your opinion on turning one of the players into a werewolf? Thoughts
@chriscollins2095
@chriscollins2095 7 жыл бұрын
They talked about making players into werecreatures in the werecreature review they did. They basically said that it's a good idea for the DM to just take control of the players when they transform, or otherwise do something to make lycanthropy less appealing. Because if there's no drawback, why not become a werecreature the first chance you get? They're immune to regular weapons and they inflict lycanthropy. But lycanthropy is supposed to be a curse, not a boon. Unless the DM plans for everyone being a werecreature, it could unbalance the game.

Just watched the campaign, and i was wondering why you kept asking if you wanted your damage separate or together. When is that important? ... Haven't been playing D&D that long, so just curious..... Great educational vids btw!

There are only a few times that it matters to the PCs. Barbarians can have DR (damage reduction), if someone has resistance to a certain type of damage, etc.
@chriscollins2095
@chriscollins2095 7 жыл бұрын
If a character deals two different damage types at once, the monster may take half damage or double damage from one of the damage types. Like a flametongue sword does slashing and fire. If a creature is resistant to fire, it takes all the slashing but half the fire damage.

The most important that I noticed in the campaign was for the zombies. They have an ability called Undead Fortitude. If damage would take the zombie to 0 HP or below, they make a Con saving throw against a DC of 10+damage taken. If they succeed, they're only taken down to 1 hp. So, since they were rolling multiple attacks at the same time, the DM needed to know the damage of the individual attacks for that purpose.

There is some interesting plot information presented here, but this information belongs in the game. The players can not find this information through roleplaying unless there are supporting characters who drop a lot of hints and options for the players to pick up on. So how do you organize that? If the players enter a village, followed by walking into the center of the village where there might be some type of conversation that takes place even though the players should instead be rounding up the children. So why shouldn't an npc tell the characters to round up the children. It is obvious that the players are off track if they are thinking about killing the children.

I've made my own tabletop RPG, and called it RPGenius. I've got multiple themes going in my Campaign and most of my cities and towns are based on real places. I've got a steampunk London, Samurai Japan, a small french-like town and a Nazi Vampire Castle. Do you base your locations on real world places?
@FTMFHoodYall
@FTMFHoodYall 8 жыл бұрын
make sure your story is fluid because the contrast between the locations could be a bit unnatural
@doctortequila5268
@doctortequila5268 8 жыл бұрын
I've tried to great lengths to integrate the lands realistically. The whole concept of the "Nazi Vampires" are Vampires who believe in the extermination of all Centaurs. They're not inherently evil, depending on your viewpoint. The major factions in the story all have some form of backstory. The only place without one is Shuga Mizumi, the Japanese village, but that should be fairly easy
@jimdavis141

I've used real world locations, cultures, and events as inspiration for my games in the past, but for this game in particular I didn't use any specific real world location or culture as inspiration. I think so long as the cultures, people, and events in your setting are thought out, interconnected, and internally consistent, then it doesn't matter much where the inspiration comes from. What's more important is that there are ample opportunities for the players to get involved with the setting and that the major players (npcs) of the setting don't overshadow the actions of the PCs.
