As a player of a cleric with a very high wisdom, I really enjoy having a week in between sessions to ponder over my character's decisions. I think wisdom represents that, knowing how to act and react "wisely", sometimes I am really dissappointed with my decisions that happen later during a sessions when everyone gets tired :-)

I love how much opportunity you give your players to think about their characters thoughts and actions, and I was very happy to hear your concession to the idea of the game as a storytelling game at the end there. It feels like you are very successful in giving your players agency in the world beyond just which monsters they kill. You may be evil Matt, but you're awful good!

@@robertcox9871 I just looked and I appear to have been mistaken. I may have remembered from an old version of the game. I started with AD&D. Curses are not identified with the Identify spell but apparently artifacts can be although, if they are tiered items then I would only allow the identify on the active abilities and of course any curses would not show up. The Internet says the curse thing... The DMG (p. 139) says about cursed items: Most methods of identifying items, including the identify spell, fail to reveal such a curse, although lore might hint at it. A curse should be a surprise to the item's user when the curse's effects are revealed.

Banzai Bot I have a theory. Each time the dynasties died, their power and knowledge released out into the world. By sealing it up in ringwell, the Khalien empire prevented the cycle of civilization from continuing. Also, with the dying god, it seems that a cult around this being was based around this power and knowledge. I bet Ajax seeks to become this figure, kind of like an anti-Jesus

In all honesty, the party didn't actually explain to Lady Arosavar - forgive my spelling - why she can't tell the Church. They just told her she can't, and then when she wanted to leave they got aggressive. I think if they explained to her in detail that the relics in Ringwell were locked up for a reason, and if they were to get out it may cause havoc in Capital, and perhaps even cause hysteria she may listen to their rationale.
@kevincullen6627
@kevincullen6627 5 жыл бұрын
But given her zealous nature she would probably think the church and house Navarr are the best and only real choice to guard such important relics. Thats not to say they cant convince her but it would be difficult for a somewhat dim principled knight like her to see the big picture and the consequences of this place being unearth in this time of unrest.They may be able to make a move to open talks with the house's Cardinal but in all likely hood they are going to try and subdue her which can then pivot in many ways

Usually I can't think of titles for my campaign diaries better than "Big Oof" or "We Are The Walking Pest", which are basically just dumb puns or memes based on what happened. There is a song by The Builders and the Butchers called Raise Up, and there is a repeated refrain in that song that goes “When you make fire with The Devil, don’t be surprised when you get burned. It's an interesting observation; "most players want to be chaotic neutral". True I think D&D starts as an exploration of having both the ability and licence to do what you want which frankly is a nice break from real life. Also, I think some players don't really know how to play CN. I explain it to my table as : "Imagine you are a house cat. You can act violent for no good reason, but you can also just be totally bored with something. And you can still feel emotions, you can like your friends, hate your enemies, and love that special someone or your family. You're not a crazy person, you have a basic set of behaviors that might be predicted by people who know you Very Well (friends or enemies). Captain Jack Sparrow is also a good example. I really thought Von Glower was a version of Gulthias, what with the reverences to his grove/garden and whatnot.

If they attempt to murder the knight, I hope you don't hold back at all. And King? If he's NG, he should immediately shut that down or face loss of absolutely all of his cleric abilities (unless some other ... entity steps in to off him power for obedience.) Regardless, attacking the knight in this way seems like an auto-alignment shift toward evil (so NG becomes TN, LN becomes LE, etc.) Guess we'll see ...

6:30 I disagree. If it's not a dangerous situation, then it makes perfect sense to split up, but how often does the party actually encounter not-dangerous situations? And if it is dangerous, any halfway competent party will know that defeat in detail is a major danger, from the times when they've inflicted it on their own enemies. This is reinforced by the fact that D&D parties tend to have strong synergies, and are greater than the sum of their parts. There is what I would call "good metagaming" in not wanting to overburden the GM, but it also makes perfect in-character sense to not want to split up. 28:20 they were trying to create a sanctum safe from my puns. The only way to do that was by not having any straight lines. 38:20 wouldn't be be pissed off about the fact that they were the ones who imprisoned him in the first place?

Question: if the church’s god could say where their knight died then why wouldn’t he/ she tell them where to find ringwell? Here is an answer I think would be good/ add tension: ringwell has some ability to go unnoticed, even to gods. That way they still could possibly get away with it but the church would still know where the knight was going and what part of the city she was in before she disappeared. So the church would slowly move into the neighborhood investigating

It's already been explained. All memory of where Ringwell was and what was in it was erased from history.

I hope the players can make an impressive enough answer that, even if it means that they have to deal with and appease this knight, they can convince her to be quiet.

I have a player who is obsessed with looting and killing. He gets genuinely upset to a pretty wild degree when he doesn't get what he wants. It's very enjoyable to listen to the other two players roleplaying calming him down. They sort of brute-force pull him from player anger into character roleplaying.

Anytime a good cleric is talking about killing another good character it had better be for a REALLY good reason. Otherwise said Cleric will be out of a job and probably will be hunted down and brought to justice.

Yeah. I've actually done that to a cleric in an old 2E campaign where a player who had no business playing a NG cleric straight up murdered someone in the game (I can't recall the reasoning); he was a little surprised when all of his cleric abilities immediately went away ... but nobody else in the group was.

You say there is no right answer to the situation with the Knight, but seeing as her Order will find out about Ringwell either way, it seems like the "less wrong" answer is to let her go and not make an enemy of her organization.

It depends on how much time they'd gain by killing her and what they'd use it for.
