We were lucky enough to snag a campsite reservation at Yosemite upper pines in the midst of the busiest summer season this national park has seen in years. Crazy long lines to get in, overfilled parking lots, and tons of tourists flocking in. It’s not a great option for day visitors but if you’re staying overnight, this is an incredible experience and you get the earliest access to all the trails and get to hang around the park as long as you want.
Join us first-timers as we discover what it’s like to camp at one of the most distinct and beautiful national parks in the country. We’ll hike the mist trail, up to vernal falls, then to nevada falls, and also check out lower Yosemite falls.
Our gear:
- 6-person Core Pop-Up Tent (life changing and so easy to put together): amzn.to/4cCo4Ss
- Tent tarp (basic must have): amzn.to/3zqViFM
- Camping cooking utensils set (has everything you need, and is surprisingly sturdy/heavy duty quality, not flimsy): amzn.to/3zqViFM
- Double burner camp stove (love it, but be warned, it's kinda hard to clean): amzn.to/4eCvUx8
- Stanley camp stainless steel cookware set (I was adamant about using only stainless steel because I fear PFAs in nonstick cookware lol): amzn.to/45HWFfF
- Kelty love seat camping chair for 2 people: amzn.to/4clQ4d9
(BUT I recommend getting the three seater one, so you have a space to put random stuff -- I wish I saw this before buying my two seater: amzn.to/3W07d5p)
- Coleman 10x10 Mesh Tent (MUST HAVE for preventing bugs while you're eating and prepping food, but I recommend getting an even bigger one for additional room to roam): amzn.to/4cyYjCo
- RTIC cooler (just as good as a Yeti, and keeps the food cold all weekend long): amzn.to/3L0Hy7q
- cordless hand-held car vacuum (nice to have but not strictly necessary): amzn.to/4cyloFh
- Water dispenser jug (it's cheaper at home depot): www.homedepot.com/p/IGLOO-10-...
- Collapsible sink/buckets 2-pack (SO useful for washing dishes and carrying toiletries to the bathroom): amzn.to/4cwiYYl
- Hammock (Chesley always brings it, but TBH you're usually out and about hiking so there's not a ton of time to chill in the hammock): amzn.to/3zkgqh9
- Motion sensored headlamps (I do not recommend these -- they're very sensitive, but I guess it's good if you are doing activities like exploring caves, cooking, etc.): amzn.to/4cf06Nj
- Extra large picnic blanket to use as picnic table cover: amzn.to/3XFvv71

Great video, really loved it. Didn’t seem like amateurs to me. I love the filming and editing as well as the humor. The captions are really cool too the way you put them on there. You guys are great campers. How do you eat a double cheeseburger? Liked the popsicle watermelon. You make me want to camp with you guys. Thanks for sharing. I will watch a few more of your videos.

Thank you for sharing your camping trip to Yosemite ❤ I live in Silicon Valley and have never been even though it’s so close and I’m already 71. I loved your cinematography. It really felt like I was there with you. The food looked so good like going to a restaurant. Very clever way to cook hamburgers on the camp fire pit, so creative. It looks like you had a super fun time and are really experienced campers. ❤

Thanks for the kind words! I’m delighted that you enjoyed the video, and I’m so very glad I got to bring you along with us on the trip. My friend Dale will be thrilled to know you think highly of his campfire cooking skills 😄 I hope you get a chance to visit Yosemite - they also have cabins, yurts, airbnbs, and nearby hotels that make it easier to visit.

My boyfriend and I just started dating and wanted to go camping for spring break which is April 1-5. Yosemite upper pines was our top choice and we are just starting out camping and was not aware that I would be booked months in advance so we were upset about that and we’re just going to settle for another place that’s not as cool. I did some research and found an app called Campflare that notifies you when certain campgrounds open up. I got 1 notification that upper pibes opened up and immediately went to reserve it. I was putting in my info and it got booked up by someone else asap. Literally 10 mins later, another cancellation and I immediately tried to book it and it worked!!! We’re so excited for our first camping trip!

Amazing video, i was wondering what tent you used over the picnic table and also what wipes you used to clean your equipment? did you encounter and bears or mountain lions, and if so how did you handle them? thank you and if u answer i would be truly appreciated. Im going in may this year and camping so any tips would be appreciated.

Hi! We used the coleman 10x10 screened canopy for the picnic table: www.coleman.com/tents-canopies/canopies-shelters/ And we used kirkland wet wipes/baby wipes to wipe down things that couldn’t be submerged in water (like the stove). We didn’t encounter bears or lions this time around but we have seen bears in the campsite at other parks. We carry a bear horn and bear spray - make lots of noise and keep your food locked away! My biggest tip for camping is to get a really good sleeping bag and sleeping mat / mattress. The first time I went camping, I had nooo idea it would get so cold at night and that the ground would be so uncomfortable when using only a thin pad. Lesson learned :p You’re going to have a wonderful time - enjoy!!

Plz explain trails and names to help us hike out there. Like the starting point and the ending point that would be amazing
@iriswoohoo
@iriswoohoo 4 күн бұрын
Hi! the starting point is the Mist Trail. Then you just keep going up 3 miles (4.8 km) round trip to Vernal Fall, and if you want to get to the very top, it's 7 miles (11 km) round trip to Nevada Fall. It's basically one long trail up, there are signs and you won't miss it!

How did you do a walk-in to get this campsite or did you reserve it? What time of the year is this?
@iriswoohoo
@iriswoohoo 4 ай бұрын
You’d have to reserve it months in advance. Unfortunately yosemite campsites are very competitive to grab. There are some “first come first serve” campsites but that depends on the month you’re arriving. For example: www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/camp4.htm We went during July which is peak camping season.
