Get a 4' PVC pipe and make a antenna stand using stakes and cord to hole in place (staked in the ground, and you could get your antenna even higher. And possibly use the pvc pipe as an atenna storage. And get some velcro straps to hold everything together and store it. You don't want your coax waving in the wind. Otherthan that, awesome job.

That TV coax is 75 ohm so it can carry video as well as audio, you need 50 ohm coax to match for a radio. Unless you are using a balun and or a tuner thats not gonna match. F.M. transmission polarization is vertical wether it is a dipole or a end fed Vertical, ground plane . AM and SSB typically use horizontal polarization but can be vertically polarized as well . Hope this information helps .what you need is a telescopic mast and mount your dipole vertical you will get nice round RF lobes off each side . 20 ft plus mast will help out GMRS/ UHF and VHF . They are line of sight so height is might!.

I like the idea, that being said I personally would use the Velcro wire ties rather then trying to use string to hold everything together. Overall good job.

thank you and yes that is a great idea and i now have those straps in my online shopping cart.

With that dipole oriented horizontally, you are probably severely hampering your performance, since everyone else has their antennas oriented vertically. This looks like a cool idea if backpacking in and no trees are available for suspending a roll-up jpole!

thank you for the info so if i mount it vertically it would work better im still learning while im building. So everything helps.

How does it compare, in your opinion, to the little antenna that came with the BaoFeng?

10x better its amazing.

@@arizonasadventures8827 Nice. I just recently got some radios for preps and was curious about how much simple antennas like these help with range and clarity.

I forgot 1 thing in my post Get some RG8X coax 50 ohm for portable use. Or LMR400 COAX for a base height is king on vhf uhf radio.
