I have been to Baku twice in the early 80s and lived not far from the sea. Caspian sea. On the north Right side Kazakh republic, the left side is Russia and below Russia is Azerbaijan and on the east side is Turkmenistan. The Caspian Sea region is one of the oldest oil-producing areas in the world. one of the biggest investors was The Petroleum Production Company Nobel Brothers, Limited, or Branobel - "Nobel Brothers" in Russian), an oil company set up by Ludvig Nobel and Baron Peter von Bilderling. The first oil refinery was constructed in Baku in 1859. The kerosene plant was built by Djavad Melikov in Baku in 1863 and fridges were used in oil refining for the first time in the world. 15 oil refineries were operated in 1867. If not for the oil in Baku, Russia wasn't able to fight with German forces. During the war, Nazis forces almost reached Azerbaijan. If they took it, Russia was destroyed by Germany and made its colony. During the soviet union Azeri, Georgians, and baltic states, Ukraine lives much better than the Russian Federation.
