Rewatching the tent cot videos. This is a fantastic video! Loved this one. Thanks for sharing. That tarp setup over a cot seems ideal. Dont have a lot of trees around for us to string between. But I imagine polls can be made to work with practice. I have a Kelty tarp I like.

@@TheEmporiumOutdoors Yes, I see that. I might have continued enjoying it had I had one, but its debatable. I am such a greenhorn, the wildlife saw me coming and had their fun with me. Last time I was with some friends, we hiked 2 miles near big sur in california. Left my pack outside the tent. Next morning, my friends found my skivvies all over the ground, while my pack floated in a nearby pool of water. The critters tried to get my trailmix. They didnt know how to open the front flap. But they had fun trashing my bag! I was an easy target!

I really like the warbonnet tarp set up with the Teton tent. That changes everything for me, fantastic. We have had fire ban's and OHV bans near us in Northern Alberta so I haven't been able to get out much, but on the flip side I got lots done around the house.

Just going thru more of your older videos and I'm not disappointed. 👍😃 Great dogs and great video! You'd mentioned that you hadn't found a good way to button up the doors when the storm hit so I wanted to mention potato chip bag clips and those large black clips used to clamp together large stacks of paper, usually found at any office supply store. I found success with both but you'll need fewer of the former (as they tend to be larger), while the latter have a stronger grip. Good luck, and thanks again for sharing!

There you go Kemosabe!! That's the type of set-up I'd been talking about previously. Tarp coming up from behind and an awning in front with poles. I really like the affect those doors have with the Warbonnet tarp. Nicely done my friend. LOL... I just got one of the new rain flies for my Teton, but, am really liking the looks of the tarp for most seasons. Maybe in winter, the tarp and the rain fly to keep the tent cot more dry and a little extra heat retention. Great times, and nice job securing it all in place when the storm blew through. Fine outing indeed.
@TheEmporiumOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
Yup - that setup worked great for the TETON - Hahaha - I remember the tarp comment from a few videos back 😉 it works so well. Hi, I'm also a Helikon fan. You can attach the Essential Kitbag to the Foxtrot side. I have one E&E Pouch on the other side. The Groundhog and the Matilda are also excellent backpacks, and you can combine the Groundhog with the Foxtrot (they work together very well).
@TheEmporiumOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
They make good stuff for a reasonable price. Ive been using thier heavy fleece patriot jacket for years - So wanted to test some more of their stuff. Hey Michael, been enjoying your channel for the last several months. I have bought the Teton tent, cot and oversized rain fly. Had a chance to make use of it this past weekend and we had a fair bit of rain. One aspect I had some trouble with was trying to keep the fly off the tent. Especially on the sides. Most of the videos where you have used it is in the winter. In this one you went with a tarp. Have you had success using the rain fly in the rain? Thanks!
@TheEmporiumOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott - I haven't had much experience of the TETON in the rain - mainly snow and bugs! I know there are some tie outs on the fly that might help keep it off the inner - and maybe peg out the fly too (for the Elite) to give it some tension. Let me know how you make out!
@thehandygeek9225 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply! Yes, I noticed those ties as well. It was starting to feel like a lot of work to tie off each of those points. Not sure what you would do on the door side. Like you mentioned previously, it kind of needs a vestibule to solve that. In the end like you discussed here, the tarp seems to be the best solution for this tent. It is a great tent and cot combination. Adding the tarp really completes it. Thanks again for producing these videos. I can across them when researching UTVs and the Pioneer 500 is one of them. You’ve encouraged me to head out and do some of this backcountry camping. I’m from Ontario and we have lots of crown land to explore as well.
@TheEmporiumOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
Hey Scott - Thanks for getting back! Yea - a vestibule would make this tent cot really stand out - I wish they would listen to their customers! The P500 was a great machine and I explored a lot in that little UTV 😄 Ontario is an awesome province! I especially enjoyed driving through Northern Ontario - Lots of space to explore you are right! Hope you get out soon! Glad you liked the videos -Best wishes Michael & Esme 🐶👍

Michael, Do you recommend the Teton Tent-Cot over the Kamp-Rite Tent cot? I've owned the Kamp-Rite for a few years and love how it sets up/tears down quickly. I wish they'd put out a new version with lighter materials and something to help with the condensation. Love your videos - Ry
@TheEmporiumOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
I like the TETON over the Kamp-rite for the simple reason I can break it down to just the cot or just the tent. But either one is great to sleep in! I know they do make a lighter Kamp-Rite cot now - But it doesn't look as sturdy.

Which would you say works best? The tent/cot with a tarp over it or the tent with the rain fly? I was thinking of picking this up as a comb on tetons website and I noticed that the is an outfitters rainfly called the Elite Rainfly XT that extends to the base of the cot ublike the tents pack in rainfly. The whole setup with the faom matress is $326 us which seems like not a bad deal. I got mobility issues so I've been looking at this as a way to get back out there again. Since ground tents and roof top tents are going to be a no no for me.
@TheEmporiumOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
The Elite Rainfly covers the tent and cot all the way to the floor. You can see it here:- kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j7KXiLde2beYmnk.html Its great if you are expecting lots of rain or snow and you can also use the underneath of the tent as storage. I like this system as its more than the sum of its parts. You can use the tent separately or just the cot for guests at home. The mattress is bulky but comfortable plus you don't need to inflate it! 👍 I've used this system all year long and during winter with temps down to -30c / -22f. Its great if you have mobility issues as its as easy to get in and out of just like a normal bed. The setup is also very simple and easy. Hope that helps! 😉

Enjoy your videos and purchased the Teton tent largely because of them. Found my 5’10” height was too long for tent and my head and feet crushed into the sides if I wanted to lie on my back. For me, I would guess if I was about 5’6” the tent might of worked for me. So was wondering how tall are you.
@TheEmporiumOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
Thats really interesting - I'm 5' 9" so only an inch shorter. The cot is 85" x 40" ( 7' 1" x 3' 4") and the tent matches the cot. I can easily fit plus 2 dogs. Is it the TETON XXL Quicktent?
@bebopkirby5 жыл бұрын
Yes it was the Teton XXL. The floor dimensions were fine but the inward slope of of the tent sides was the problem. Curled up in a fetal position was fine but if I wanted to sleep on my back l was jammed head and toe into the sides of the tent. I guess if l had to I could of put up with it but I decided to send it back.

As always, great gear review Michael. I recognized Simon but that's not Esme in this video. I wouldn't think she'd go along with a butch cut being the lady she is even if its summer and hot. So where did the short haired look-a-like come from and what's her name? :) I just sent two Teton XXL, Tents, cots, pads, etc to Alaska. Fishing trip with my brother next month. Still have two set here in Hawaii but work has kept me out of the woods...err...jungle...augh...recreation area so far this summer. Keep up the good work and tell Esme I said hello, where ever she is.

Hahaha - She does look like a different dog - lol but it keeps her so much cooler and easier to clean after running in the bush all the time! Thats so cool about the TETON setups! Just a few chips to make them come in to feed. I don't normally feed any animals but I made the exception for the camp robins as they are so friendly 😊

What is your favorite XXL Cot or your hammock? I not a young person any more or I would go with a bed roll and a tarp. I am in southwest Texas, so nothing like your winter.

I have/use both (I'm 59). I like them both, I haven't used my hammock between trees yet, only with my ENO hammock frame/stand (steel). I think I sleep more soundly in the hammock, but the cot is a little bit easier to get in/out of for me. I'm finding "Glamping" to be nice, I have a "Clam" 12' across pop-up gazebo/tent to be bug free and it's big enough to have the hammock stand inside as well. Room enough to have a camp chair and cook off my camp stove inside as well on bad weather days. Kind of nice.

@@RatdogDRB I will be also doing a metal hammock stand I built myself out of 1 inch pipe.A frame design with a army surplus cargo ratchet strap as a guy line. I have used a Kneebo cot for many years. Long before the XXL Cot came out. Never tried the cot tent. I do like the idea of the cot tent and the hammock tarp. I also like the idea of a pop up sort of shelter with more room. Looking to my first night in a hammock. I am no longer a hiker but still a camper or gamper as it is known as these days. Many thanks for the ideas.

I'd say the cot tent is easier to deal with and you will have a good nights sleep with out too much effort. The hammock can get some getting used to but its very portable (if you have trees 😄). I'd perhaps buy a cheap hammock from Amazon and try it before spending lots of money. I find the hammock very relaxing to just be in and read or nap. I sometime take a light hammock even if I'm tent camping as they are packable fun. Best of both worlds! 👍
