Camping with Sam Bananas

Camping with Sam Bananas

2 жыл бұрын

I head out for a tent camp in the Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness Area. Spend the night next to the Sand Dunes. Make a fire, cook some food, drink some beers. Breakfast/coffee in the morning and head out.

Sam, thank you for the shout out. You are my favorite camper… very humble and I like that kind of under dog type of guy. not trying to look masculine or pretended to be in the camera. Take care Sam and enjoy your night together with you lovely wife.

Thanks again Sam for a great video and all your efforts. That brings back memories I grew up in Michigan I used to spend a lot of time in northern Michigan and the upper peninsula growing up as a teenager. I'm hoping next month to make it to Colorado and then we're going to drive up to the western side of Yellowstone and we're going to camp there with a friend. I've been watching small plots too I always watch all these videos and yours. I also watch hours and hours of other bushcrafters all over the world. I just rallied out a 3 day trip to the Manistee River trail/ NCT 24 mile loop down by Mesick. Have you ever backpacked on North Manitou Island? Dispersed camping all over, you can stay right on the dunes pretty much anywhere. My oldest daughter's middle name is Dune. Cheers bro!!

I like the beer bag. The banana flask is cool. I want the military winter flask style canteen because i like butter scotch rum. You should try twisted tea or redds black chery ale . Either will fit in the beer bag . But they can be dangerously good. Go down way to fast. Big basswood lake has black bear here. He has been eating bull head and digs up craw fish. He pretty friendly. If you come across a freindly bear. What ever you do. Don't touch their butt. They will bite you for it. Enjoy camp.

OMG. Nordhouse Dunes isn't to far from Lake City, Michigan. Which is where my grandmother had a lake cottage on Crooked Lake. We, my family use to visit grandma during the summers of the mid 60's to 1980. Though we never went to the dunes I am familiar with Manistee and Travers City areas. Mostly Cadillac. I am sure somebody already mentioned it already, but don't roll your tent up and try to put it in the bag. instead stuff it in like you would your sleeping bag. I used to work at a gear store back in the day, and that's how we would always suggest putting the tent back into the bag . Happy camping.

Great video, Sam. I was supposed to be out doing some "man stuff" in the woods myself but I came down with a cold or something so I'm watching camping stuff on youtube instead. The cabinox bit had me laughing. Good stuff. Hoping that dog is okay as well. Do you try to roll/fold the tent up to get it back into the bag or just stuff it? I'm a fan of the stuff method myself lol.
@CampingwithSamBananas
@CampingwithSamBananas 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, thanks bud! I try to roll/fold, but I'd really prefer to stuff it like a sleeping bag. I have those stuff sacks from M-Tac you see in the video and the small one seems to work pretty well so far. They are good for so much. Thanks for sitting through the ad my brother, helps get me to where I need to be in order to start YT full time.

When I worked at a grocery store, I told a young coworker that my dogs were barking, and he looked at me for a few and then asked me "you can hear them from here?" It took a second and then I laughed so hard. He was serious. Okay then.

Thank you! It's not legal to camp right on the beach, however people do it and I think I'd get away with it, especially this time of year. As for the one's with the view, I kind of kick myself for not camping on those, but like you said: There's always next time! I will definitely come back here in the future.

great video. I have camped at the dunes as well and Lake Michigan in incredible. One thing that I wanted to mention is you endorsement for carbinox watches. I am very leery about these watches because they only come with a 14 day warranty which is a bit weird. I did order one to try out however. Their 14 day warranty is on everything...hardware and software. We'll see how it works out. Thanks for the great videos.
@CampingwithSamBananas
@CampingwithSamBananas 2 жыл бұрын
Hi David! Michigan really is beautiful, I'm lucky to live so close. As for watches, I get where you're coming from on that. But I have put both the Spacecrafter and the Titan through the ringer. In my opinion, the Titan is a lot tougher, but the Spacecrafter is a lot nicer. I agree, I'd like to see a longer warranty, but at $100 each, they are kind of hard to beat. Thanks so much for the feedback, my man. Maybe we'll share a beer on the trail someday. Happy trails!

Good video, It be better if it were raining lol , try something new, you eat foods that have seeds , try planting a wild garden (peppers, onions, potatoes,tomatoes) at every place you camp , because you sometimes return to the same location it would be cool to grow and use consume them , if it works Keep making videos 👍🖖

Hey thanks for the encouragement my man! I don't think I'm going to be able to plant a garden in these spots, because it's public land. I don't think you're supposed plant anything in them. I do want to start a garden at home though.

The general rule is to always boil. You could always add bleach, but you are drinking pool water. What really sets on my mind is the man made pollutants that might be in that water. Those don't get filtered out or boiled out.
@CampingwithSamBananas
@CampingwithSamBananas 2 жыл бұрын
Most people don’t know that about bleach. It’s actually true, but I’d only do that in an extreme emergency. And you’re totally right about the pollutants. That’s my main concern because otherwise I trust the filter and boiling.

I'll leave a 2nd comment, not only because it helps the channel, but because I get gabby after a couple of beers. I don't know if you actually live in Michigan or are just visiting for the purpose of the video and I don't care, it ain't any of my business, but I find it pretty cool that you happen to be in the state of another outdoor KZfaq channel I've been subscribed to for years.
