It's always good Samuel when you make a video, that isn't out there, for folks having the same problem with their auto!!! Way to go, and mechanicing is quite often, you don't have the perfect tool handy or available, but stay calm, and focused and think it through to a good solution, and that's always positive, because you make yourself smarter, one challenge at a time. And then it actually gets fun and gives a sense of pride in keeping your vehicle up. I'm doing mine tomorrow, and know what I'm up against, and how much time it will take! Thank You!!!

I pooped in the air vents behind the glovebox.. bet my ex wont ask me to fix her shit anymore.. i told her i did it. So she probably cleaned it up. What she doesnt know though is i replaced her airbag with a colostomy bag and left the chemical charge in place.. so if she gets in a fender bender shes gonna get the poo sprayed in her face.. lol.. she broke up with me by getting drunk and sleeping with 5 dudes at the same time then thought it would be funny to drug me with xanax which knocked me out then proceeded to take a shit on me and put a note in it.. then apologizes after.. so justified.. in my opinion.. is reason for poo.. im not crazy i swear.. but figured id tell yall a little story..

I first had new valve cover gaskets installed and didn't know to replace the cam plugs at the same time. I took a right angle drill attachment and screwed a self tapping short machine head screw into the plug most of the way in. Then took a long screwdriver and pried it off the motor. Not an easy job since you can't even see the plug without a mirror.

Paint can opener (free) will do the same thing except for the leverage pin, which isn't absolutely necessary. You can use quite a few things, just be mindful of not marring the housing. The seal itself is being replaced so no need to worry about it unless you will be using it as buffer to protect the new seal from what ever you're using to tap it in.

I really liked that camshaft seal installation tool. It looked very familiar to me(plumber). Was that an 1-1/4" or an 1-1/2" clean out fitting? Did it work on the crankshaft seal too? A coupling would work too, if you didn't have a clean out. I was about to buy a little seal install kit till I saw this video. I then realized I have all sizes of your seal installer in the work truck.

If oil leaks from those seals does it drip down and under the vehicle or no...?
@Lucentlens
@Lucentlens 2 жыл бұрын
It certainly can/will - will pool inside the camshaft cover first, then inevitably drip out.

How do I replace the rear camshaft seals?
7 жыл бұрын
great video thanks. you think it is necessary to do them even if they aren't leaking? i kinda usually just don't do them
@93paxon
@93paxon 7 жыл бұрын
I would say you should be fine, but keep in mind that if they start leaking, they're gonna make a mess and you have to go all the way back in there to replace them. The cost of the seals was worth not having to go all the way back in, in the future.

yeah my buddy who was a tecnician for honda for 30 years was like yeah I don't mess with them unless they are leaking. 9 times out of 10 it is after you replace them they start leaking

mine looked dry so i left them since i don't have those fancy remover tool either

I haven't heard of them leaking after you replace them, maybe if you replace it with an aftermarket gasket. Mine werent leaking, but the half moons on the rear of the heads were. You can access those when doing a valve cover gasket job. I recommend checking those out on this motor.

@@93paxon Anyone who replaces the seals and *then* experiences a leak should very cognizant of the possibility of scratching the shaft upon removal. Your removal looked easy, but sometimes the position is very awkward or the seal is very stuck. I've used that tool on a FWD crankshaft seal and made a scratch I had to buff out. If you scratch the shaft - even just slightly! - adjacent to the seal lip you will accelerate the wear on the seal greatly and it will leak prematurely. Just FYI.

I just did my cam seals and removed the cam pulleys with an impact. I put everything back and it seems the right side cam pulley if off alignment. It’s like I can’t get it to be at TDC...any suggestions?
@93paxon
@93paxon 6 жыл бұрын
those cam pulleys only go on one way. if one is out of time, take the timing belt off and adjust accordingly. its a non interference engine (if you're working on the same motor as me) and you can freely turn it.

Sam Bishop thanks for response Sam. Your vid was very helpful. I bought the same seal tool as you used. I made a video on my channel showing the issue..if you have a chance can you look at it. I just want to make sure it’s okay to put the timing belt on. It just seems the right(passenger) cam pulley feels off. Or maybe it’s just normal. Thanks for your time. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mNiSZtOktbLbaGg.html
