I recently picked up a 2012 Tesla model S signature with 199000 miles! Can it still make long distance trips? Follow and find out.

Typically, you're not supposed to charge your Tesla to 100%. That's why we have an adjustable charge limiter on the car. That might be why your car isn't charging all the way to 100%.

No, its because the top end takes awhile.

The car isn’t making it to 100% probably cause it hasn’t been charged to 100% in a while. My gen 1 Model S took a few months of charging to 100% to actually hit that since the older batteries take longer to top balance than newer cars. And yes, you aren’t supposed to charge to 100% more than once a month or so. The only reason to do so is to top balance the cells for the BMS.

The nav in our 2022 RWD Model 3 routed us to that SuperCharger on our inaugural roadtrip from Indio, CA to Colorado Springs, CO last August. That is a decent stop. Overall, our base Model 3 doesn't SuperCharge quickly (150kW peak but momentary 170kW max if preconditioned and plugged in at

Have fun on your trip to NorCal. Plaid model sounds like it could be fun.

When he first said 242 I thought he meant kilowatts but then I saw that was miles and it’s only 70kw. Is this limited to 75kw or is it the charger?
@RyanDimal27 күн бұрын
Charger I think is what you’re looking at. It’s and 85kw car
@beamerbread25 күн бұрын
Early Model S top out at 120 kW or so if u start the Supercharge at less than 10% state of charge. 75kW at that SOC seems normal.

Does this car not have free unlimited supercharging?

That sucks. Mine is still working. Must be a fluke for one of us

Dang, 11 years is not that long for what’s supposed to be a premium vehicle. So sorry!

What a weird conversation. Someone bought one of the first cars from a brand new company almost as soon as they became avaliable to buy. Super early adopter of a first Gen car that notoriously had battery and motor problems that later versions did not have. Switched out one battery and one rear motor over 11 years, apparently being good enough of a car to not only stay in the possession of the one early adopter but also to be regularly used enough to accumulate wear and tear. And after more than a decade, with no other information, his brother decides to jump in the comments.... What? Why'd he keep it for so long if it was a problem? Lol. Did the Tesla hurt you? 😢
