Can a complete beginner cyclist ride 30 miles (48km)? It may not sound a long way to the most seasoned cyclists but it can be a daunting task for a novice. So, back by popular demand is our beginner Harriet, who joins Manon for her first significant bike ride. How will she fare in her latest challenge?

Harriet getting into cycling is the most exciting content GCN has produced in a while. THIS is what cycling should be. Sharing good time, with good friends, and getting more people on bikes. Harriet, coming from an experienced cyclist, you have been doing a phenomenal job. Not many people will ever do 30 miles in their lifetime. You should be proud of yourself, and I hope you continue riding. This is such a heartwarming experience. Manon is such a great riding partner too. Thank you so much for this Manon and Harriet. I'm a beginner cyclist too and can't yet take a drink whilst riding, can only do a couple of pedal strokes standing and I have my hands on my brakes too. I appreciate that you allowed yourself to be vulnerable Harriet; to allow us beginners to feel encouraged ❤ I managed to ride 37km today and had to nap! I really hope that this introductory content continues and I'd love to see how Harriet progresses. Well done Harriet! The Cafe Ride are the bestest rides, a casual roll for 60-90mins to an eatery/cellar door/heck even take a small picnic somewhere scenic, and then return. No rush, no fuss, pay as much attention to the surrounds as to the bike. #NextChallenge Might I suggest the Parkland Basics to help build confidence with bike handling, operation plus the little tips and tricks for new cyclists to try to make habitual things? Slow speed balance and handling, hill starts (up and down), stopping to a halt (whether flats or clipless. #Routines), awareness and simple signalling, preparing to restart when stopping...

It's about the posture. Manon and Harriet are more or less the same height, but Harriet isn't used to the race geometry, so she tries to have the body in the same posture having to reach for the handlebar instead of leaning into it. I think the body can get used to it pretty fast.

@@shinobi111782 probably is but that's a side effect of unfamiliarity and discomfort with a bike. Let Harriet get happier with her bike first I'd say.

@@lmaoroflcopter can agree on that. I've been doing biketrips with kids and teenagers (300km stretched over 5 days) for quite some time now and although I of course know about the importance of the right saddlehight in terms of efficiency, i also noticed, that many, who are not that used to riding, find it way more comfortable and easier to control their bike with the saddle lowered just a bit.

Looking forward to seeing her progress, from going hands free/being able to take a drink on the move, to trying out clipless pedals. Hopefully she'll even complete one of the big Sportives. And Manon, well done to you, for your great encouragement, throughout the whole ride.
